Job overview

The post holder will be required to fulfil a comprehensive range of dental nursing duties within Specialist Dental Services (SDS).  SDS appointed nurses will be based at a SDS clinic but may be required to work at other SDS locations within the service.  

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced  Registered Dental Nurse to join the Specialist Dental Service in Morecambe. The vacancy is full time Monday to Friday, however part time applicants would be considered.

 

Main duties of the job

We provide Special Care and Urgent Care to adults and children at the Queen Victoria Centre in Morecambe and Royal Lancaster Infirmary. The key responsibility of the post holders will be to provide high quality dental nursing support to clinicians. The role includes decontamination, reception, and other clinical duties. The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a caring approach to patients, be well organised and flexible and work as part of a large team. Post registration qualifications would be advantageous but are not essential and there would be opportunities to develop knowledge and skills.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSEs with grade C and above in English and Maths, or equivalent qualification
  • National Certificate in Dental Nursing or NVQ Level 3 Dental Nursing qualification
  • Valid GDC registration

Knowledge and Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Duties and responsibilities of a Registered Dental Nurse
  • Knowledge of legislation related to Infection Control and Decontamination.
  • Awareness of Risk Assessment and Health and Safety Policies
  • Awareness of safeguarding issues
  • Awareness of Data Protection and Information Governance
  • Knowledge of range of NHS Community dental services
  • Up to date with legislation and current procedures relating to dentistry/Clinical Governance

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience of working as a dental nurse
  • Experience of working in a Community Dental Service and/or General Dental Practice

  • Good organizational and planning skills to ensure effective provision of service
