Job overview

An exciting opportunity to join our busy GP practice based in Nelson as a member of the reception team.

The role of the Care Navigator is to be the first point of contact for patients, suporting them to ensure their needs are met by the most appropriate member of our multi professional team

In addition the successful candidate will provide general assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors either in person, in writing or over the telephone .

A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail is required within the role as is the ability to work as part of a wider team and on own initiative within practice policy and frameworks 

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide a comprehensive reception service to patients and visitors to the practice. Responding in a timely manner to both telephone and face to face service users. 

Registering patients on the electronic patient system (EMIS) and updating these records as appropriate.

Understanding and maintaining confidentiality at all times.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • GCSE English and Maths level 4 or above or equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of a receptionist role, greeting patients in a professional manner
  • Ability to manage a high volume of enquiries whilst maintaining a calm and professional attitude
  • Experience of administrative / clerical tasks
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of working within General Practice or similar setting
  • Experience of using EMIS

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to communicate successfully- both written and verbal across all levels
  • Good working knowledge of MS Office. Able to use Word, Excel and Outlook to a high standard
  • Able to work as part of a multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervison
  • Excellent time management and organisational skills
