An exciting opportunity has arisen for a dedicated and professional Medical Secretary to join the Specialist Network within the Forensic Inpatient Department at Guild Lodge, Whittingham. You’ll be part of a motivated and supportive team, working closely with consultants and junior doctors to ensure the smooth running of services. Main duties of the job

As a Forensic Inpatient Medical Secretary, you will provide a comprehensive and professional secretarial service to the medical team, including audio transcription, live typing, and document preparation. You will support weekly MDT meetings, liaise with internal and external stakeholders, and manage sensitive patient information with discretion and accuracy. The role requires excellent IT and communication skills, the ability to work independently, and a flexible approach to covering colleagues during periods of absence. Your attention to detail and understanding of medical terminology will be key to your success in this role.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Educated to Diploma level or equivalent
  • English & Maths qualification at GCSE level
  • RSA III or equivalent word processing
  • Computer skills – Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access)

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • An understanding and appreciation of confidentiality
  • Awareness of the importance of the legal processes
Desirable criteria
  • Awareness of Mental Health Act 1983

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working as a medical secretary
  • Minute taking
Desirable criteria
  • Previous Mental Health secretarial experience
  • Previous experience of working in a forensic setting
  • Previous experience of working with people with mental health needs
  • Previous live typing experience

Skills

  • Advanced communication and organisational skills
