Job overview
Lancashire & South Cumbria Foundation Trust recognise and value the importance volunteer support is to us and our patients. We currently have a volunteer role supporting at the Royal Preston Hospital in Preston. You must be 18 years and over to apply for this role.
Please be aware we can only accept applications from people within the local area with appropriate right to work in the UK. We cannot offer visa sponsorship for a volunteer role.
As volunteer expenses are limited to a 20 mile round trip, we are unable to proceed with applications if you live to far from the location you are volunteering for.
Main duties of the job
Lancashire & South Cumbria Foundation Trust recognise and value the importance volunteer support is to us and our patients. Volunteering is a long term commitment (for example 9 – 12 months), and to bring continuity and stability for patients and staff, we ask volunteer to support by doing the same periods each week, which are discussed and agreed by the volunteer and volunteer supervisor.
We are looking for volunteers to support our Mental Health Liaison Team which is based at Preston Hospital. This is an important service providing support to others in a time of crisis. This volunteer role is designed to support service users to the centre, their families and carers.
Working for our organisation
The duties of the volunteer role can include, but are not limited to –
• Greeting visitors on arrival and directing them to the appropriate place or interacting with them whilst they wait.
• Spend time listening, talking and engaging in activities with the service users.
• Assist with Friends & Family Test (FFT) survey to gather the opinions of service users, their families and carers.
• Encourage conversation during meal-times so it becomes a social occasion and beneficial to service users.
• Support the team with the distribution of refreshments and snacks.
• Supporting colleagues when servicer users are discharged or transferred
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Due to nature of the service provided by the team, there will be occasions when the service is very busy and some service users may be in distress. Volunteers will be supported at all times by members of staff and will not be put in situations that will cause upset.
An Enhanced DBS with Adult Barring is required for this role, and there is no charge to a volunteer for a DBS. Applicants must be 18 and over to apply for this role.
