Job overview
We are looking for an experienced administrator and corporate governance professional to lead our Corporate Affairs Team in supporting the work of the Board of Directors. This is a varied role interacting with key stakeholders, both internal and external to ensure that the Trust operates with integrity, transparency and accountability. The post holder will have the highest levels of personal organisation skills and be able to manage a fluid and responsive team workload that will align with legal requirements, ethical standards and strategic objectives
Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide a comprehensive meetings management service including the development of agendas, authoring and issuing of papers, management of meeting arrangements and minuting of meetings, tracking and following up on agreed actions. The post holder will manage the Corporate Affairs Team.
The post holder will also be responsible for the management of arrangements related to the Board Development Programme.
The post holder will lead on the arrangements for Board and committee effectiveness reviews ensuring outcomes are presented to the relevant sub-committees and Board.
The post holder will lead a team of Corporate Affairs Officers who will provide a comprehensive support service to non-executive directors and governors.
The post holder will undertake a range of duties on behalf of the Director of Corporate Affairs to ensure effective corporate governance arrangements are in place in respect of all relevant legally required registers.
They will lead on the compilation of the Annual Reports and Accounts

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Support the effective organisation of the Board and Council of Governors and their respective assurance committees/groups
- Support the effective organisation of the Trust Management Board and Risk Management Group
- Ensure information regarding the Trust’s governance arrangements and status is up to date and publicly available ensuring that it covers the requirements of the Trust’s terms of licence/authorisation, the Code of Governance and National Oversight Framework

Lead on the production and development of the Trust’s annual report
- Develop and maintain departmental standards for the work of the team
- Supporting governors and members
- Assist and support the process of appraisal of the Chairman and non-executive directors using available systems

Assist in the responses to national and local consultations, regulatory requests, freedom of information requests as they relate to corporate governance and/or the business of the board of directors.

Qualifications and Education
Essential criteria
- Degree or significant equivalent experience
- Extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office software packages and advanced keyboard skills
Desirable criteria
- Post-graduate level qualification or equivalent experience in business administration
- Evidence of leadership or management development course
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Significant experience as an Executive Assistant at Board- level
- Significant experience of agenda preparation, formal minute-taking and management of cycles of business at Board- level
- Evidence of success in a role with similar requirements and responsibilities
- Ability to work under intense pressure, run multiple tasks at the same time, deal with constant interruptions, and work to deadlines
Desirable criteria
- Broad understanding of the NHS
