It's likely you’ll be in a medical workforce management role already, an experienced senior medical team leader looking for your next career move or even a senior business partner with extensive experience or specialist interest and knowledge in medical staffing contracts and terms, conditions and pay. Your experience will strongly support your fit for the role.

You’ll need to be flexible and used to working in and leading  teams in a busy operational environment, with no two days the same. Agile and flexible working is supported but at least 3 days a week onsite in Preston is essential.

Interviews will be held on Thursday 18th  September 2025

Main duties of the job

You will work strategically and operationally at a senior level within our Trust, truly partnering with our senior clinical leaders, building relationships and driving change for the advancement of the service. You will also collaborate with peers at other Trusts across our region to improve medical staffing policies, procedures and practices for the better.

Your portfolio will include high-quality and specialist medical and dental advice on terms, strategic resourcing, recruitment, planning, revalidation and appraisal, medical workforce planning and temporary staffing.

Supported by your team leaders and working collaboratively with our Head of Workforce Advice and business partners you will lead and manage the medical workforce and medical bank portfolio and teams. You will ensure systems, policies and processes and commercial contracts are robust in place to comply with all medical and dental terms and conditions of service and employment legislation.

Providing expert advice and guidance on all medical contractual arrangements, effective resourcing and deployment, our inhouse medical bank and strategies to reduce agency use. You will also lead wider medical workforce related programmes associated with financial and performance sustainability. Working closely with our Medical Director you will develop effective working relationships with recognised trade unions (BMA & HCSA) and implement partnership working arrangements through our LNC.

Working for our organisation

Bringing significant expertise & experience, you’ll help shape our service.  We want to be challenged, to look at new delivery models & to continually strive to be the best service possible.  Contributing to patient safety & providing a high-quality service is at the heart of everything we do.

We know this is a big role, but we have big ambitions and plans so need someone who can help us achieve and surpass them. What can we offer you in return? You will have the freedom to innovate and be creative, strengthening your skills and enhancing your experience across a broad portfolio.
