Junior Clinical Fellow in Medicine

NHS Medical & Dental: Junior Clinical Fellow

Job overview

We are seeking a motivated and enthusiastic Junior Clinical Fellow to join our dynamic Medicine team. This is an excellent opportunity for doctors looking to gain further clinical experience in general medicine within a supportive and educational environment.

In this role you will be working within a supportive and educationally focused environment, you will be providing junior level experience (equivalent to FY2/ST1-2) in a teaching hospital within all the main medical sub-specialties.

This post is based at either Royal Preston Hospital or Chorley & South Ribble District General Hospital, and you will be an integral part of our team and will be involved directly with the day-to-day functioning of medical units.

Main duties of the job

You will be required to work closely with GP and Emergency Department colleagues while accepting patients for assessment in SDEC. Our SDEC accepts ED ambulatory patients and GP referrals, who are assessed by ACPs and junior doctors in the unit.

These patients are reviewed by senior decision makers and then a final management plan is made. The majority of the patients are discharged with follow up plans as required. Working on the SDEC provides good learning opportunities with one-to-one interactions with consultants and registrars.

As a junior clinical fellow, you would be required to support Senior doctors with our ward jobs and help with clerking as required.

We are keen to develop our doctors’ skills and you would have opportunities to perform invasive procedures like lumbar puncture, ascitic paracentesis (diagnostic and therapeutic) and pleural aspiration.

Working for our organisation

We have 10,000 fantastic people working hard to deliver quality services to our patients. Whatever your role, you help look after 370,000 people in our local area & give specialist care to 1.5 million people across Lancashire & Cumbria.

Working with us gives you the knowledge and sense of pride that every activity you do genuinely does make a difference to support our patients & staff, ensuring we keep thriving & delivering outstanding healthcare right across our local towns.

You’ll have access to varied development opportunities, learn new skills, meet fab people & do things you’d never have done. You’ll learn about working in a hospital, interacting with people from all different roles to build skills & enhance your career path.

You’ll make an impact, be challenged to think differently, be bold & help innovate to keep improving things. Everything we do centres around patient care which means your role is pivotal and something really to be proud of.
