Are you a Maternity Support Worker who is passionate about improving maternity care?

You will support the maternity practice education team to lead change and achieve the highest standard of safe care for women and families, through effective delivery of a programme of recruitment, retention, education and support.

As part of this team you will be contributing to the future development of the maternity service with a particular focus on the maternity support worker and healthcare assistant roles.

To meet the essential criteria for this vacancy, you must have:

  • GCSE Maths & English grade 4-9 or grade C or above OR level 2 functional skills in maths and level 2 functional skills in English
  • BNCS or NVQ 2 / Internal Level 2 training programme  in Health and Social Care (must include work-based assessments). We are unable to accept qualification that are achieved through online learning only.

All overseas qualifications must be proved comparable to UK standards through ENIC

Main duties of the job

Providing accessible / bespoke pastoral support to the HSA / MSW workforce and developing support networks and clinical support as and when required.

Supporting the concept of continual professional development through supporting the delivery of relevant programmes of education across the support worker workforce. This will include essential job role training, point of care training, induction programme and other relevant developmental programmes.

Support the workforce in career progression via education and mentoring.

Support the maternity education team in maintaining the training matrix, monitoring and evaluation of the effectiveness of education, and other relevant administrative tasks.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Support the practice education team with the delivery of mandatory, statutory, induction and essential to role training for the maternity service clinical support workforce in line with local and national standards.

Assist with assessing clinical skills in practice in line with the scope of practice for the support worker workforce.

Assist with training for medical devices and logging competencies in line with scope of practice.

Provide administrative support to the team including booking and preparing meeting/teaching space, collating and monitoring education and training records in line with national standards.

Actively facilitate colleagues’ development and pastoral support by working alongside colleagues in the clinical areas.

Actively participate in interviews, meetings, events and networks as required.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Care Certificate
  • 5 GCSE’s Grade C/5 including English and Maths or equivalent qualification
  • BNCS or NVQ 2 / Internal Level 2 training programme in Health and Social Care (must include work-based assessments not online).
  • Evidence of completion of MSW Band 3 competencies
Desirable criteria
  • NVQ 3

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least 12 months experience in Band 3 Maternity Support Worker role.
  • Previous experience of educating Maternity Support Workers
Desirable criteria
  • Has experience of working in various areas of the service
