Job overview
We are inviting applications for a Locum Consultant Paediatrician, for an initial period of 3 months, to join our dynamic acute paediatric team. This is a full-time post (10 PAs) and is to commence as soon as possible.
The role will primarily focus on General Paediatrics, and while a specialty interest is not essential, any subspecialty that complements our existing service will be welcomed and supported.
We offer flexibility within the role, providing opportunities to gain experience in broader aspects of the consultant position, including:
- Managerial responsibilities
- Participation in leadership activities
- Service development initiatives
We are committed to supporting professional growth and will provide mentorship and guidance for:
- Newly qualified consultants seeking to build experience.
- Candidates pursuing CESR or portfolio pathways.
- Experienced consultants looking to re-engage or transition into a new setting.
This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to a forward-thinking team while developing your career in a supportive and collaborative environment.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will join a thriving and fully integrated Child Health Directorate, comprising 21.5 WTE Consultants, including 2 Paediatric Neurologists and 6 WTE Consultant Community Paediatricians. The post is primarily based at Royal Preston Hospital, with close collaboration across the wider paediatric team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inpatient ward cover, supporting the Consultant of the Week.
- Assessment Unit and emergency admissions cover.
- Outpatient clinics, primarily new patient assessments.
- Evening resident shifts in the Paediatric Assessment Unit (approx. 6 shifts per 10-week cycle), working alongside junior and middle grade doctors.
- No neonatal cover is required.
- Opportunity to undertake managerial or leadership responsibilities, depending on interest and experience.
The job plan is negotiable and can be tailored to suit the candidate’s career aspirations, including those seeking experience for CESR or portfolio pathways, or newly qualified consultants looking for mentorship and development.
