Job overview

Applications are invited for the above post to commence following completion of all required pre- employment checks.

Ideally suited to fully registered doctors seeking to extend their existing exposure in the speciality, there may be a requirement to participate in the on-call rota working alongside middle grade colleagues.

This is a full-time post for 6 months with a view to extend to 12 months.

Previous experience in Plastic Surgery is essential.

Main duties of the job

The unit treats the full range of general adult and paediatric plastic surgery conditions including patients with major and minor burns.  Microsurgical procedures are performed on elective and emergency patients.  Day case surgery under both local and general anaesthetic is carried out.

Weekly teaching meetings – with consultant input - are held. Morbidity and mortality audit is performed monthly, and quarterly clinical governance meetings are held.

We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.

You will receive the full support of the Trust and the Directorate to develop specialist areas of interest in line with Directorate business plans and the development of services generally within the Trust.

Clinical research is actively encouraged.

Support to study leave and medical meetings can be arranged.

Working for our organisation

Undergraduate medical student teaching has commenced in 2003. The Plastic Surgery Directorate has active links with the University of Central Lancashire (UCLAN) with trainees undertaking laboratory research at the University. Considerable opportunities exist for research and development, which are integral to teaching hospital status.

This post is subject to the National Terms and Conditions of service for Hospital medical and dental staff (England and Wales) Sept 2002 and remuneration will be as set out in the NHS Medical and Dental Pay Circular.

Although this post is not recognised for training purposes, considerable “hands on” training is given in line with skills and experience.

Our team is our work family.  At Lancashire Teaching Hospitals, you will be working as part of a collaborative, friendly and caring team of incredible people who are committed to providing excellent care with compassion. We celebrate diversity, encourage everyone to contribute, and you are valued for who you are.

Our mission is to provide excellent care with compassion.
