Rotational Band 5 Speech & Language Therapist

Band 5

Job overview

We have an exciting opportunity for three enthusiastic and motivated Speech and Language Therapists to join our Band 5 Adult Rotational Team at Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust! This is a fantastic chance to gain experience across a range of clinical areas, with all rotations including Acute Medicine and Surgery to support early dysphagia competency development. You’ll also rotate through Neurosciences, Stroke, and Voice, giving you the opportunity to build your skills in communication, voice, and rehabilitation within both inpatient and outpatient settings.

We’re looking for friendly, proactive individuals who thrive in an exciting, fast-paced environment, enjoy working as part of a team, and are confident managing a varied caseload. In return, you’ll receive excellent theoretical training through our structured in-house dysphagia and communication programme, as well as regular joint working with dedicated and experienced senior SLTs to support your learning every step of the way.

This is a supportive, well-established team that really values development and progression—and we’ll do everything we can to help you grow your career. The role involves working across two hospital sites and in different clinical areas, so strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential.

We’re passionate about evidence-based practice and offer regular CPD opportunities to help you build your portfolio. Please do get in touch—we’d love to hear from you!

Main duties of the job

  • To participate in the provision, monitoring and evaluation of a high-quality Speech & Language Therapy (SLT) service within identified clinical areas and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • To manage a caseload of allocated patients referred with acquired disorders of communication, voice and dysphagia.
  • To assess, diagnose and formulate care plans using patient centred care.
  • To develop knowledge and skill base through extended clinical experience, CPD and full participation in the rotational aspect of the post.

Working for our organisation

We are a dedicated SLT service with excellent patient care at the core of our values, and our varied caseload provides complex presentations across dysphagia, communication and voice respectively.  We have established VFS and FEES clinics, with in-service training to provide sustainability.  We strive to continuously improve our SLT services through service development and innovation and are keen that audit / research are part of our clinical roles.  We have strong clinical leadership within the department and structured clinical supervision and CPD is promoted.

You will join a large friendly team of speech and language therapists covering a range of specialist services.  The department is rated 'GOLD' on the STAR quality assurance framework, with a strong commitment to evidence-based practice.  CPD and training are well supported.
