Job overview

We are looking for a Senior Clinical Fellow in Stroke Medicine who will be based at Royal Preston Hospital. This post is a fixed-term post, initially for 12 months however there is the possibility to extend.

You will support the day-to-day delivery of hyper-acute, acute and rehabilitation stroke services, predominantly on the Stroke Ward (Ward 21), and work closely with Consultant Stroke Physicians, the stroke specialist nursing team, Emergency Department and Acute colleagues.

Key elements of this role include participation in ward rounds and emergency TIA clinics, leadership and support for junior trainees (including out-of-hours cover), high-quality patient care and administration, and active involvement in teaching, audit, clinical governance and continuing professional development.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will:-

 

  • Participate in the day to day functioning of Stroke Medicine, predominantly on the Stroke Ward.
  •  Liaise closely along with stroke specialist nurse, with Emergency department colleagues and Acute team assessing acute strokes for further management.
  •  Participate in consultant ward round and emergency TIA clinics.
  • Provide leadership for more junior trainees, especially when covering out of hours.
  • Promote high professional standards of clinical care for patients, both through direct patient care and by the maintenance of continuing professional development.
  •  Undertake administrative duties involved with the care of his/her patients.
  •  Promote high professional standards of clinical care of patients and the health and safety of the critical care environment.
  •  Maintain continuing education and professional development.
  • Actively participate in the audit process.

Working for our organisation

Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is one of the major acute trusts in the North West, with all of the usual specialties on site, as well as being a Tertiary Centre for Lancashire and South Cumbria in the Departments of Neurosciences, Nephrology, Oncology, Plastic Surgery and Burns. 

Undergraduate medical student teaching commenced in Oct 2003. We offer the full range of acute outpatient and inpatient services to the 380,000 people living in Central Lancashire.

Our department offers you the opportunity to develop knowledge and skills in CGA and experience in caring for patients with traumatic injuries. You will also develop non-clinical skills in service development and quality improvement. You will be exposed to clinical governance aspects of the service (for example observational attendance at Coroners Court). Although this is not a formal training post, you will receive close clinical supervision in a supportive learning environment. You will receive educational opportunities and time to develop your interests and Portfolio.

We will care for your health and wellbeing alongside our junior doctor team. You will work within this supportive team which is continually striving to learn and improve.
