Job overview
This is a Junior Clinical Fellow in Trauma and Orthopaedics role. This role will be suitable for a person wishing to increase their previous experience within the Orthopaedic department and gain more experience at a Junior level.
We are seeking a Junior Clinical Fellow, who will partake in the junior tier on-call Rota, currently at 1:10.
This post is not formally approved for training but provides excellent opportunities for progression and would also provide a study leave budget for attendance at national trauma courses and conferences.
You will work with a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic elective trauma surgeon and required to work across both Royal Preston Hospital and Chorley South Ribble District General Hospitals.
The post is fixed term for 12 months. The successful candidate would be available to commence in post ASAP, but a suitable start date could be arranged with the successful applicant.
Main duties of the job
This post will provide both elective and trauma experience in a major trauma centre and would be suitable for a person wishing to obtain CT / ST1/2 level experience, or ST3. This post would be suitable for a pre ST3 post experience.
- Organise and perform the day-to-day pre and post-operative care of inpatients advised and guided by the Registrars and Consultants in the department.
- You will be expected to be on the ward during the normal working day except for natural breaks and when clinical duties elsewhere so demand
- Prepare for and attend the Registrar and Consultant ward rounds and carryout duties thus allocated.
- Examine and clerk all patients admitted to the wards. Maintain regular and comprehensive progress notes in the case records of patients.
- Provide cross-cover for other colleagues as required of the working
- The 'senior-most' Registrar is responsible for the day-to-day administration of the junior staff, the co-ordination of leave arrangements and the preparation of duty rota.

Remuneration and Contractual Arrangements
This post is subject to the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals Trust Doctor contract.
The contract may be supplemented or amended by local collective agreements reached with trade unions recognised by the Trust and the rules and resolutions of the Trust Board.

Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students.
As a teaching hospital, we encourage all our staff to participate in teaching and training at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We are committed to developing our teaching and academic activities and can facilitate meeting any training needs for these roles. You will be expected to take on the role of educational supervisor for doctors in training attached to the department.
We support the requirements for Continuing Medical Education as laid down by the Royal Colleges and are committed to providing time and financial support for these activities.
The post aims to provide training opportunities similar to that of a recognised training post.
You will be expected to play a full part in departmental audit and clinical governance programmes.

Essential criteria
- Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
- MBBS or equivalent
- Permission to work in the UK

- MRCS

- Previous basic surgical experience at F2 level or above
- Appropriate knowledge base and ability to apply sound clinical judgement to problems, demonstrates clear, logical thinking/analytical approach
