As a Waste operative you’re a valued and vital part of the portering team, you will be dealing with numerous types of waste using various methods of disposal and transportation.  We need caring, compassionate people with fabulous customer service skills who are passionate in helping others and always work to their very best to deliver this service across our hospitals. This role is both demanding and physical.

You will join a team of very strong, dedicated, and experienced waste Operatives that work extremely hard together to deliver an efficient service that we are extremely proud of. You will have the chance to shadow one of these experienced staff members as part of your training.

Main duties of the job

As a Waste operative the role would involve the removal of the waste using various methods throughout the trust and transferring it to our recycling waste station. All manual handling and health and safety training will be given and refreshed annually to ensure all tasks are performed in line with trust policies and procedures.

Your main duties will be the transferring of different types of waste following schedules to a set time scales. Waste is transferred using various methods with mechanic aids available.

We are not going to say that this is an easy job; it’s busy, lively, active, and physical. But at the same time this job is extremely rewarding, fulfilling, gratifying, and stimulating.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Communicate verbally with the Portering Supervisor and colleagues
  • Your main duties will be to collecting all waste streams that are generated by our wards and departments and transporting it in a professional and dedicated manor to the waste compound over a 24-hour period.
  • Communicate with a range of clinical and non-clinical staff and patients, visitors to understand patient needs.

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE standard or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Full UK driving Licence
  • First aid course
  • Manual Handling course

Knowledge & Experience

  • Previous experience of waste services
  • Proven ability to work without supervision

  • Previous experience of working in a hospital environment
