Are you organised, caring and passionate about making a difference for children and their families? We’re looking for a dedicated Paediatric Ward Clerk to join our friendly team on Ward 8 and the Paediatric Assessment Unit at Royal Preston Hospital.

As the vital first point of contact for our patients, families and visitors, you’ll help create a warm, welcoming and supportive environment. This is a key role where excellent communication skills, compassion and attention to detail really matter.

Main duties of the job

  • Greeting and supporting children, young people and their families on arrival
  • Providing a helpful and professional front‑of‑house service
  • Managing patient information and ensuring accurate data entry
  • Supporting clinical teams with essential clerical tasks
  • Organising records, results and documentation
  • Booking follow‑up appointments and assisting with daily ward flow

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responding to external and internal telephone queries from staff, patients and others and referring to appropriate person. 

Communicates with a range of staff, users and visitors to the Trust / Department utilizing a variety of communication methods including verbal, electronic and passing information in a format that is appropriate to the individual request.

Organising incoming and outgoing post, referring enquires to appropriate person as necessary.

Utilisation of local or Trust case note tracking system.

Filing of reports and results.

Data Entry.

File Location.

Book appointments for children discharged both ward 8.

Qualifications & Education

Essential criteria
  • Numeracy and literacy skills
Desirable criteria
  • GCSE Maths and English C or above or equivalent

Knowledge & Experience

Essential criteria
  • Administrative skills
  • Previous experience of working with the public
  • Aware of the concept and application of confidentiality
  • Previous experience of working in a health care or related setting
Desirable criteria
  • Understanding and awareness of Quadramed system
