Working for our organisation

Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh (WWL) Anaesthetic department operates at three different sites. Wrightington Hospital (WTN) is a tertiary level orthopaedic hospital and our elective Orthopaedic GIRFT Hub. We have 12 theatres at WTN which provide elective and semi elective orthopaedic surgical services to 16 years and above patients. We also run some sessions from other surgical specialties at WTN. We commonly undertake surgically complex upper and lower limb joint replacements and receive a good number of peri prosthetic fracture patients for surgery. We also operate an Enhanced Care Unit (ECU) to look after medically and surgically complex patients pre and post operatively. We provide a wide range of upper and lower limb nerve blocks as part of our anaesthetic practice. We are heavily involved in teaching regional anaesthesia at international, national and local level and conduct ESRA approved cadaver course and other ultrasound guided block teaching courses every year. We are committed to training and provide advanced level regional anaesthesia training to resident doctors from the North West School of Anaesthesia and also to MMed Fellows in regional anaesthesia from Edge Hill University.
