Capital Development Accountant

NHS AfC: Band 8b

AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.

But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.

Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:

  • might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
  • often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
  • could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience

We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.

Job overview

A exciting vacancy has arisen for an enthusiastic Capital Development Accountant to lead the Capital Function and deliver the Trust’s capital agenda.

The post holder will manage capital finance planning and reporting within the Trust in all its aspects, ensuring that the Trust meets its duties in this area, as well as providing appropriate capital financial advice.

We are looking to recruit an individual who has transferable skills, with a proven track record and experience within a similar environment and has values in line with our Trust values.  We are looking for an individual who is resilient, focused and with a ‘can do’ attitude. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified finance professional looking to take their career to the next level.

Main duties of the job

Take a lead on the production of annual and monthly capital reporting and monitoring returns.

Ensure that appropriate systems of financial control for capital are in place and operating effectively and have overall responsibility for the Trust’s asset register and ensure that this is up to date, includes all additions and disposals, and accurately reflects the net book value and depreciation for all of the Trust’s assets.

Deputise for the Deputy Director of Finance - Financial Services in this area where necessary, including representing the Trust at internal and external committees/meetings at a senior level, and will be the lead individual for the capital financial service.

Ensure that all accounting transactions, for which they have responsibility, are treated and handled in accordance with the latest professional accounting standards and the post holder’s accounting body’s professional code of ethical conduct, seeking technical advice as appropriate to inform this.

Update and maintain professional accounting competences through a programme of continuing professional development, as set out in the post holder’s agreed personal development plan.

Working for our organisation

Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).

We have four primary goals:

  • high-quality care for all,
  • being a great place to work,
  • partnerships for impact, and
  • research and education excellence

And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.

Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:

  • we are compassionate,
  • we are proud,
  • we are inclusive, and
  • we are one team

This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
