CLINICAL CODING SITE LEAD
NHS AfC: Band 6
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.
Job overview
This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Clinical Coder looking to advance their career within the profession. To directly line manage a coding team of staff with a variety of different posts over three sites to support delivery of the coding service. You will be fundamental to delivering a world class clinical coding function to the Trust and other key stakeholders, playing a key role in developing, maintaining and evolving the Trust’s clinical coding systems, processes and service delivery to support the provision of in-depth and quality coding.
Through team work, you will ensure that every aspect of our service meets the rapidly changing needs of our organisation providing quality service to consultants, clinicians and non-clinical colleagues. You will be required to work with operational and corporate teams and clinical portfolios in the development and delivery of complex coding requirements. This will require analysis, interpretation and resolution of highly complex problems, covering a wide range of clinical and business areas including at a national level.
You should be able to demonstrate a high level of communication skills, excellent organisational and time management skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure to meet deadlines. Remote working is available to the successful candidate.
Main duties of the job
The main duties of the Site Lead role are:
- accurately abstract, analyse, and assign complex diagnostic and procedural codes using ICD-10 and OPCS-4 classifications
- work closely with clinical teams to validate and enhance the quality of coded data
- organise own & team work loads and work within deadlines.
- act as a mentor to junior coders and support their development
- contribute to clinical engagement, KPI monitoring, audit preparation and data quality improvement.
Working for our organisation
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
