Job overview

This is a fantastic opportunity for Dietitians who are either currently registered or those awaiting graduation and HCPC registration this summer to come and work at one of the countries largest specialist teaching acute Trusts.

We are looking for enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our team and start their career pathway. You will be part of a dynamic, forward thinking and friendly Dietetic and Nutrition adult team predominately based at the Leicester Royal Infirmary but will also have the opportunity to work at the Leicester General Hospital. We have free hospital transport to allow you to do so.

Main duties of the job

You will cover a variety of different acute inpatient wards/units (acute medicine, general medicine, infection diseases, diabetes, spinal surgery, gynaecology surgery, urology surgery, trauma and orthopaedics and care of the elderly). You will also have the opportunity to undertake outpatient clinics, structured patient education sessions and healthcare professional training. There will also be the opportunity to develop patient information resources and have involvement with our social media platforms.

You will also have the chance to work with Senior and Senior Specialist Dietitians as part of work shadowing or undertake an attachment in specialist areas of dietetic practice eg gastroenterology medicine, critical care, surgery, cancer care.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To ensure that appropriate and best practice / evidence-based advice on nutrition and dietetic issues is available to patients, clients and health professionals within the remit of the post holder’s duties.

To develop nutrition and diet literature and resources and ensure this is non biased and evidence based /best practice as part of the Leicestershire Nutrition and Dietetic Professional Network.

Ability to utilise communication and education skills to educate patient with disabilities (e.g. profound communication problems, learning disabilities) who may have barriers to understanding diet therapy.

To maintain and demonstrate a personal development plan to ensure continued professional development.

To demonstrate responsibility for managing workload and meeting targets.

Qualifications/Training

Essential criteria
  • A four year Undergraduate or a two year Post Graduate Degree in Nutrition & Dietetics or Similar
  • UK Registered Dietitian with the Health Professions Council or pending and due to be registered

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Experience of working with the public in a face to face role
  • Experience of working in a caring enviroment
  • Experience of giving standard food, nutrition and diet advice
  • Has gained experience of different ways of caseload and workload management when delivering services
  • Has experience and appropriate level of skill to communicate with individuals handling difficult questions and using empathy and listening skills

Communication

Essential criteria
