Senior Sister
NHS AfC: Band 6
AI tools like chatbots and virtual assistants can support you as you complete your application. For example, they can check for spelling or grammar errors, or help you to decide what to include.
But they shouldn’t replace your own responses or be used to write the application for you.
Relying too much on AI can negatively impact your chances of success, because automatically generated answers:
- might not be specific or relevant enough to address the criteria in the recruitment profile
- often seem generic and not personalised enough – an AI response won’t show your unique voice and perspective
- could misrepresent information about you, such as your qualifications, skills and experience
We monitor applications for any behaviour that could create an unfair advantage, and we check all references carefully. You are likely to be tested on your experience at interview, so be honest and make sure all the information in your application is correct.
Job overview
Critical Care within the University Hospitals of Leicester are looking for Band 6 Sisters or Charge nurses.
We have opportunities for suitable candidates to join the senior teams in Intensive Care at the Glenfield Hospital and the Leicester Royal Infirmary and in High Dependency at the Leicester General. Our Intensive Care Units are energetic and fast paced with a mix of emergency and planned care. The LRI has a focus on emergency care serving one of the largest EDs in Europe while the Glenfield is primarily planned care including cardiac surgery and ECMO patients. The LGH has a 6 bedded high dependency unit and primarily caters for level 2 planned surgical admissions. They also have the capacity to manage level 3 emergency patients prior to their transfer to Glenfield or LRI. As a band 6 your role will be to provide direction and inspirational leadership to the nursing and multi-disciplinary team within your unit.
The post holders, as expert clinical practitioners, will be required to be enthusiastic and integral members of one of these established and committed teams. Integral to this role is the provision and supervision of the delivery of excellent patient care.
Main duties of the job
Whilst working shifts, you must be committed to delivering a high quality service ensuring patient care, safety and experience is paramount. The successful applicants will be expected to participate in effective clinical leadership and management of the team and demonstrate an ability to manage their time by prioritising and organising their work efficiently.
Wider responsibilities include the provision of a supportive learning environment for continuing education; reporting to the Senior Sisters/Charge Nurses/Ward Leaders and supporting the wider organisation; shift leadership; managing resources and information; coordinating elective and emergency activity, and the provision of care within Critical Care at UHL.
The successful candidates will have a proven track record of working in this environment and should ideally have 3 years’ experience at working at Band 5 level in a critical care area. Post registration ICU qualifications are essential. Those working towards such qualifications are encouraged to apply as they may be suitable for a secondment. A period of supervision and structured training and support will be available and we can offer a wide range of development opportunities.
Please Indicate your hospital preference in your application.
Please note interviews will be Strength Based.
Working for our organisation
Our new strategy, developed with the support and feedback of colleagues, patients, and partners, is our compass for the next seven years (2023-2030).
We have four primary goals:
- high-quality care for all,
- being a great place to work,
- partnerships for impact, and
- research and education excellence
And we will embed health equality in all we do - taking active steps to reduce the avoidable differences in healthcare that some people face, working in partnership with communities.
Our strategy is underpinned by new values and we will work to ensure they are an everyday reality for all:
- we are compassionate,
- we are proud,
- we are inclusive, and
- we are one team
This is an exciting moment as we look to the future with clarity on what we already do well and where we need to focus our energies to make an even bigger difference for the people we serve.
