Job overview
We are looking for Band 5 Staff Nurses to join our Transitional Care Unit, working in partnership with the Neonatal Unit. The Neonatal unit has 12 beds. You will provide safe, effective, family-centred care to newborns requiring additional monitoring and low-dependency support, enabling babies to remain with their mothers whenever possible.
Working within a multidisciplinary team, you will assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care, support infant feeding, promote parent-infant bonding, and escalate concerns appropriately. You will also contribute to seamless care across maternity, transitional care, and neonatal services.
This role is ideal for a nurse or midwife with an interest in neonatal care, with opportunities for ongoing development and skill enhancement.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Responsible for assessing, planning, implementing and
evaluating programmes of evidence-based nursing care to
a group of patients. - Assisting and contributing in the management and
organisation of a transitional care unit/clinical area. - Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high
standards of quality nursing care. - Actively participate in the education, development and
supervision of other staff members. - Act as a clinical and professional role model, assessing
and supporting students and learners on placement within
the clinical area. - Work collaboratively and co-operatively with others to meet
the needs of patients and their families. - Actively participate in the education, development and
supervision of other staff members. - Actively contribute to setting and maintaining high standards of
quality nursing care.

Training & Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Successful completion of course leading to Registered Nurse – Children’s NMC Registration
- Have experience in supporting learners in the workplace and supervising their progress and / or assessing their practice.
- Evidence of Continuing Professional development or evidence of reflective profile
- Willingness to undertake new clinical practices, education and training that will enhance service delivery
- (Adult RN and Learning Disability RNs will be considered)
Desirable criteria
- Has successfully completed a previous NMC Approved Teaching and Assessing or Practice Assessor programme or equivalent
