CLINICAL SUPPORT DIVISION
Cancer Services & Haematology
Band 8a Full time - Aseptic services
Due to new funding an opportunity has arisen to recruit to an enthusiastic driven innovative Oncology & Haematology Specialist Pharmacist able to work across teams working in the aseptic and the clinical team supporting the Principal Pharmacist Aseptic Services in delivering efficient aseptic services to the population we serve.
Together with the Cancer Services and Clinical Trials Team, you will support attainment of the Quality Assurance of Aseptic Preparation Services ensuring technical specifications and systems are maintained. You will also have a good understanding of the clinical services in these areas and support implementation of the recommendations from the National Aseptic Services Review when published.
The aseptic service at University Hospitals of Leicester (UHL) operates from an unlicensed (section 10) unit and predominantly serves the Oncology Centre as well as Paediatric Oncology/Haematology situated in the Children’s Hospital, including a Teenager & Young Adult unit. There is also a significant portfolio of clinical trials requiring aseptic compounding.
Due to exciting developments with the emerging use of Advanced Therapies Medicinal Products (ATMPs) across the Trust, we will need an individual to support the Principal Pharmacist Aseptic Services with this agenda.
If you are not already a qualified independent prescriber, then you will be supported to attain this qualification to be in line with the department’s strategic direction. You will be expected to manage a team of staff and lead on development projects. You must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
University Hospitals of Leicester provide a cancer and haematology service from the Leicester Royal Infirmary site serving population of over 1 million. The advent of the South East Midlands Oncology Centre and an increase in consultant posts has enabled us to redesign our services. Leicester provides a chemotherapy service which is expanding and may, in the future, offer treatment on other hospital sites, or through outreach. On-site we have 70 in-patient beds supporting the oncology, haematology and palliative care services. Oncology and Haematology services are offered for a full range of malignancies and there is a bone marrow transplant unit on site in addition to haemophilia and haemoglobinopathy.
The Cancer and Haematology Unit has led in the trust with electronic prescribing and currently has both ChemoCare and inpatient electronic prescribing fully implemented.
You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
