We are looking for 2 Acute Medicine Physicians to join us in developing our new Assessment Centre and Acute Medicine Short Stay Unit. This is an exciting new development at Pilgrim Hospital, Boston.

The new Assessment Centre (AC) is an innovative, front door service consistent of 30 assessment trolleys and chairs which operates 24 hours a day, linking directly with the Emergency Department and various Clinicians in the Community and will attend to patients with diverse surgical and medical needs.

The Ambulatory Emergency Care Centre and Surgical Assessment Unit is also co-located in this new Unit to provide same day assessment, treatment and discharge of appropriate medical/surgical patients. The new AC will be the assessment location in the Trust for all medical & surgical patients referred from the community, ED and outpatient clinics, with daily assessment of approximately up to 60 patients.

The unit is run by a team of skilled nurses and doctors who work closely with and are supported by a large multidisciplinary team who provide a range of services to assist our patients to have a positive experience.

In direct support of the AC we have established our new Acute Medical Short Stay Unit (AMSS) is a 52 bedded unit with Acute Care Bays. The unit’s role is pivotal in the management of medical admissions to the Trust, and works closely with our new Assessment Centre, the Emergency Department and in-patients areas. Within the unit, we have a dedicated area for frailty patients which is a critical element for managing our patient flow and care, the unit as an OT area for patient assessment

You will see that we offer a fantastic opportunities for pro-active Consultants to develop their skills and experience across the wide spectrum of key services in a concentrated area. We are searching for dynamic, highly motivated and passionate individuals committed to supporting colleagues to provide high quality patient care.
