Job overview
Ward 8A is an exciting and busy ward with 29 inpatient beds. The role of the Clinical Health Care Support Worker (CHCSW) is to work alongside and under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
The CHCSW will undertake defined responsibilities appropriate to their role. They will comply with Trust policies, protocols, guidelines, the fifteen standards of the Care Certificate, and the national strategy of Compassion in Practice and will ensure safe, compassionate, and competent care is delivered to our patients and service users at all times.
Main duties of the job
Working under the supervision of a registered health care practitioner, you will undertake a range of duties supporting the Registered Nurses in the smooth running of the ward.
You will have a basic general secondary education with the ability to demonstrate literacy and numeracy skills to a minimum of Key Skills level You will also have good communication skills, be able to use your own initiative and be able to work effectively on an individual basis as well as part of a multidisciplinary team in a demanding and busy environment.
Previous experience working in an acute health care setting is not essential but desirable. Further training will be provided to develop knowledge, skills and understanding to ensure the delivery of a first class service to our patients. You will be committed to ongoing personal and career development, be willing to undertake The Care Certificate if not already attained and any other further education, training and development relevant to the post.
You will be expected to attend training appropriate for your role and undertake relevant extended roles to support the delivery of care to your patients. You will be able to undertake all shifts which occasionally include night shifts.

Lincolnshire Community Health Services NHS Trust (LCHS) and United Lincolnshire Hospitals NHS Trust (ULHT) have come together in a Group arrangement, with the goal of improving the care provided to patients across the county.
This will not constitute a formal merger of the two organisations, but will bring the Trusts together under a single Board and Executive Leadership Team, with the goal of improving the care that is provided to patients both in the community and in hospitals across Lincolnshire. Both Trusts will retain their separate statutory names and legal obligations.
The Group will be known as Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group (LCHG).

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Literacy and numeracy qualifications equivalent to Functional Skills level 1 or above (e.g. GCSE grade E or above)
- • NVQ/QCF Level 3 in Care or equivalent qualification or relevant experience.
- • Evidence of the Care Certificate or commitment to achieve on joining Trust.
- • Motivated to develop knowledge and skills and to undertake self-development
Desirable criteria
- • Understanding of the Code of Conduct for Health Care Support Workers and Adult Social Care Workers in England
Knowledge / Skills /Aptitudes
Essential criteria
- • Able to work under minimal supervision but fully aware when to escalate concerns to a registered practitioner
- • Flexible, adaptable. organised with good time management skills
- • Ability to cope effectively under pressure and resilient and work within the team to manage complex and challenging situations
- • Good written and verbal communication skills
- • Excellent interpersonal skills with tact, diplomacy, empathy and understanding
- • IT skills in order to access required systems such as electronic patient records
- • Ability to evidence/demonstrate key values and behaviours in line with the Trust framework: Patient Centred Safety Compassion Respect and Excellence
Desirable criteria
- • Working knowledge of Health and Safety, Infection Prevention and Manual Handling
Previous Experience
Essential criteria
- • Significant experience of the NHS and/or health/child care and an interest in the speciality with knowledge of wider issues relating to health care
- • Clear understanding of professional accountability, delegation and professionalism related to the role of a band 3 worker.
- • Makes a positive contribution as a team player and demonstrates awareness of importance of working as part of a team.
- • Able to deliver a high standard of care for patients and always striving to improve on what you do through change and innovation.
- • Able to communicate effectively with patients/relatives and carers and all members of the multi-disciplinary team.
- • Is sensitive to the impact and implications of decisions and activities undertaken on other professionals

- • Able to prioritise and to organise and motivate oneself and others to achieve delegated tasks.
- • Flexible approach to shift patterns and unit needs which may involve working in different areas or cross site working
- • Able to effectively and appropriately escalate concerns to reduce risk and promote patient safety
- • Able to use own initiative within the boundaries of the role and able to motivate oneself and others
