NHS Medical & Dental: Consultant
We recognise that outstanding care can only be delivered through our people. We want to attract people who can help us deliver our vision. We want in return to help people achieve what they wish in their careers in the NHS at ULTH.
We are always keen to welcome highly skilled, committed and compassionate individuals to our hospitals – people who put patients at the heart of everything they do and are ready to help us achieve our vision.
Our Group values guide everything we do. They are:

· Collaborative - We work together as a team - Collaborative is working inclusively and respectfully with others to achieve shared goals. It involves open communication, valuing diverse perspectives, and building trust to create a supportive and effective team environment.
· Innovative - We strive to improve - Innovative is the process of exploring new ideas, approaches, and technologies to improve care, services, and working practices. It involves creativity, curiosity, and a willingness to take risks in a safe and supportive environment.
If you believe in them too, then you are ready to join the ULTH team.
We’ve taken great pride in building working environments where staff always feel valued, cared for and part of a team. Without doubt this is a challenging yet very rewarding job that is at the centre of health and care in Lincolnshire - making a positive difference to our patients.

Our Group Board have recently agreed a new vision statement – “Caring and building a healthier future for all” – stating their ambition for our Trust and the wider group to be among the best.
We also have a five year Integrated Improvement Plan setting out how we will achieve our strategic objectives, for patients, services, people and partners, the last recognising that our future success depends on our ability to ensure the Lincolnshire healthcare system is successful in achieving its ambition to help people live healthier lives and provide care closer to where people live.
Our latest CQC report increased our ratings for being effective and well-led from ‘Requires Improvement’ to ‘Good’. Our rating for caring remained as ‘Good’.
This is in recognition of the huge amount of work that our amazing staff have done to improve the quality of care for our patients in recent years.
We are committed to helping our staff balance their work and home lives and ensure they feel supported, valued and appreciated.

Job overview
We require an expert clinician to support a Specialist Palliative Medicine consultant position. The postholder will have the ability to inspire and support a developing hospital Specialist Palliative Care (SPC) service and a community SPC Hospice team. With the help and direction of the executive and clinical leaders the successful applicant will ensure that we continue to provide high quality care to patients and their families.
This is a substantive post (10 programmed activities) which is based at ULTH. The post holder will be employed by United Lincolnshire Hospitals Trust and line managed via St Barnabas Hospice. It is essential that the postholder has private residence within thirty minutes travelling time of St Barnabas hospice IPU due to on call commitments.
The all-embracing nature of specialist palliative care as a countywide service results in a complex and lengthy explanation of the interrelated services and providers that address the needs of the patients and commissioners.
Main duties of the job
It is expected that the consultant appointed to this post will have a major role in the clinical leadership and delivery of quality patient care for the acute trust in Lincolnshire. This post is primarily supporting the acute trust with direct clinical care reviews, clinical leadership, quality improvement, education and multidisciplinary team support. SBH community services are delivered geographically, and this post also supports the Lincoln and surrounding areas community hospice team. Supervision and support will come from the Medical Director at St Barnabas Hospice (SBH).
A focus on “front door” or proactive palliative care in the acute trust using a quality improvement approach would support both the system and organisational objectives.
SBH delivers specialist palliative care services across Lincolnshire, supporting both the acute sector and the community services. Within those areas, other organisations including independent and charitable providers as well as specialist services established in the community and hospitals contribute to delivering care. The successful applicant will be able to support cross organisational SPC working.
The job will include liaising with and teaching nursing staff, health care assistants, therapists and other members of the multidisciplinary team. It will also include teaching medical students rotating through the ward, teaching and appraising FY and ST trainees and SpRs on rotation at the Hospital.
Working for our organisation
Thank you for your interest in this exciting role within Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals NHS Group at United Lincolnshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust (ULTH).
Our combined Trusts are some of the most complex NHS organisations in the country, with multiple sites across a predominantly rural and coastal location. In common with many NHS organisations, we are faced with growing demand for our services at a time when our models of care and our estates are stretched. We take extraordinary pride in building working environments where staff feel valued, cared for and part of a team. We are delighted this can be seen within the latest National Staff Survey results showing sustained and improved scores from both organisations.
LCHG adopted a vision of "Caring and building a healthier future for all" and three values to show what we stand for, how we want to be known and how we behave. Our Values: 'Compassionate, Collaborative and Innovative' represent how we identify, the beliefs that motivate us, and what is important to us as a Group and underpin the behaviours that we want to be accountable to uphold, and to hold others in our Group accountable for. Ultimately, these are the foundations upon which we are building the Lincolnshire Community and Hospitals Group to build a better, healthier future for our patients and people.
