Job overview
An opportunity has arisen within the Immunology Department at Scunthorpe General Hospital for a part time HCPC registered Band 5 Biomedical Scientist or trainee Biomedical Scientist.
The Immunology laboratory at Scunthorpe is the hub Immunology laboratory for the Path Links network, the Pathology organisation for Greater Lincolnshire. The laboratory is well equipped with Helena CZE electrophoresis and immunofixation analysers, Thermo Fisher Unicap 250 allergy and autoimmunity platforms, Binding Site Optilite, Beckman Coulter Navios flow cytometer, Euroimmun blotmaster, Werfen DS2 ELISA platform and QL3000 slide processor.
Candidates should have HCPC registration and IBMS registration portfolio, or an IBMS accredited degree if applying for a trainee position. Only candidates that have successfully completed the Specialist Portfolio will be considered for the specialist post. Previous relevant laboratory experience would be an advantage.
You will be required to have good communication and IT skills, and the ability to work under pressure and troubleshoot. Although initial training will be supervised by Biomedical Scientists, once fully trained, you should be capable of working independently.
Main duties of the job
Path Links is a networked Pathology Service offering a wide range of diagnostic investigations on tissue, blood, and fluid samples. Its five main sites are Lincoln, Grantham, Boston, Scunthorpe and Grimsby. A Biomedical Scientist (BMS) is a member of a multidisciplinary Pathology team within the network delivering an effective, high quality and responsive 24hr services to patients, Clinicians and General Practitioners. Registration with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC) is mandatory for practicing BMS staff.
All Path Links laboratories are accredited to national United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) ISO 15189:2022 standards. Regular assessments by external auditors from UKAS assess laboratory compliance with the published standards and ensure that the service provided meets the needs and requirements of users.
