Job overview

We are excited to be offering an opportunity to join our Lincolnshire Children and Young People’s Complex Needs Service (CYP CNS).

You will join other colleagues in the same role and work with other members of the CYP CNS, and colleagues from Lincolnshire’s Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS), to provide dedicated time to each of the six Local Authority run Children's Homes within Lincolnshire, one of which is specifically for CYP with moderate to severe Learning Disability.

You will provide mental health consultation, support and training to Children's Home staff and their managers. With colleagues, you will provide trauma-informed training and support to all staff and managers working within Lincolnshire’s Children's Homes, so that a consistent approach to understanding children’s presenting behaviours and emotions can be embedded within each home.

You will provide direct assessment and intervention as appropriate and will work to ensure that the needs of each child within a home are considered when working out a whole system approach to best support and meet the needs of the CYP in each of the homes.

This is a 12-month fixed term post. Secondment can be considered for internal applicants, or employees of Lincolnshire County Council, subject to your manager's approval.

Main duties of the job

It is anticipated that some of this “whole system” approach will include enabling carers, staff and managers to think together about the needs of a child coming into a Children's Home to then coming out again and being supported where possible to either return to live within a family based home environment or an appropriate supported living environment, dependent on their age.

You will have experience of working with care experienced children and young people, and they will ideally have experience of working within or working closely with a Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS).

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

You should possess experience of working with children and young people with a range of needs, (including mild to profound Learning Disability), and experience of working with different agencies, services and professionals. You will need excellent communication skills to ensure strong links are developed with Children's Home staff and managers; with carers involved with the CYP; and with other services providing input and support to these CYP.

The Lincolnshire CYP Complex Needs Service currently includes clinical psychology, forensic psychology; Specialist Therapists – Harmful Behaviours; Speech and Language therapy; and Leaving Care practitioners. The Service has an established consultation and training role within Lincolnshire County Council’s (LCC) Future4Me Service and LCC’s Children's Services.

Our service operates countywide, so the ability to travel independently across the county is essential. We have an office base in Sleaford, but the ability to work from home will also be helpful. We actively promote a supportive team culture and encourage colleagues with their Continuing Professional Development (CPD) and regular clinical and management supervision.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registered with a professional body e.g. NMC, UKCP, HCPC, BACP, Social Work England
  • Recognised Professional Qualification in Registered Nursing (RMN, RLDN), Social Worker (CQSW, DipSW), Occupational Therapy or other relevant qualification e.g. APT qualification and Counselling
Desirable criteria
  • Mentorship or similar qualification in supporting students in practice
  • Evidence of specialised continued professional training (degree level) in clinical practice
  • Post registration training in supervision

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant post-registration experience of working with people with mental health needs, including those with severe and enduring mental ill health
  • Post registration experience of working with children and young people and their families
  • Relevant experience of working with care experienced children and young people including working within Childrens Home settings; working with CYP and their foster carers
  • Relevant experience of working with children and young people with mild to profound learning disability
  • Relevant experience of working with CYP on the autistic spectrum
  • Experience of managing and developing staff including providing management and/or clinical supervision
  • Experience of providing training and consultation to qualified and unqualified staff
  • Experience of using evidence based practice
Desirable criteria
  • Post registration experience of working within CAMHS
  • Post registration experience of working with CYP with moderate to profound Learning Disability

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Sound knowledge of Child Care legislation, Safeguarding, Mental Health Act and the Care Programme Approach
  • Sound knowledge of current local and national strategies concerning Children in Care, Young people leaving care, CAMHS, Children’s Services and mental health
  • Excellent understanding of child and adolescent development and it’s possible impact on emotional well-being and mental health
  • Excellent knowledge of clinical/risk assessment and risk management of young people in crisis
  • Ability to work both as a member of a team and autonomously and to manage own and other colleagues’ anxieties
  • Comprehensive understanding of Information Governance principles
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Ability to delegate whilst maintaining overall responsibility for service users care, where appropriate
  • Highly motivated & able to engage with service users & carers and staff to improve outcomes

  • Ability to adapt communication style to communicate with pre verbal CYP
