Main base is Barnet Hospital

Main duties of the job

We are seeking to appoint a locum consultant in General Paediatrics for a period of 6 months, starting 1st of September 2026.

 The proposed job plan is annualised based on a 42-week working year. The working pattern will include duties covering paediatric ward for attending weeks, Ward & ED when on call, outpatient clinics & out of hours cover. Each activity has a tariff in terms of PAs e.g., an outpatient clinic provides 1.25 PAs.

Education & Professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • • On the specialist register of the General Medical Council (GMC) for Paediatrics;
  • • Registered with the GMC and within 6 months of being accepted for the specialist register for paediatrics at the time of interview
  • • Fellowship / Membership of relevant Royal College Of Paediatrics & Child Health / equivalent
  • • APLS/NLS provider
  • • Level 3 Child Protection training
Desirable criteria
  • • APLS/NLS Instructor

Experience/Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • • Broad Experience in general paediatrics at Consultant or SpR level
  • • Demonstrable knowledge of the challenges facing the service
  • • Demonstrable knowledge of the environment in which the service needs to be delivered

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Ability to take independent and full responsibility of clinical care of paediatric patients
  • Ability to lead and support multidisciplinary team
  • Ability to work within the Trust and NHS performance framework and targets
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance
