Communications Officer

SYNLAB Band B

The place to work in pathology

We are looking for top talent to join the UK’s leading and fastest growing pathology company – a scientific organisation with a clinical purpose.

Job overview

We're looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Communications Officer to join our Service Users team in a newly created role that offers genuine purpose and impact. This position is ideal for someone looking to develop a career in communications or for an individual with a clinical science or pathology background seeking to transition into a communications-focused role.

Working alongside two established team members, you'll deliver clear, timely and effective communications to customers across primary care, secondary care and third-party organisations. You'll play a key role in communicating clinical service changes, analyser and technology upgrades, and wider service updates across Synnovis and SYNLAB Essex customers.

This is a hybrid role, combining remote working with 2-3 days per week in our London office. Initially supporting Synnovis, the role will evolve to provide communications support across a broader range of SYNLAB UK & Ireland services, offering excellent opportunities for growth and development.

Main duties of the job

You will be responsible for producing and delivering clear, accurate and engaging communications to a wide range of stakeholders, translating complex clinical and technical information into accessible updates.

Working closely with colleagues across the organisation and external partners, you will build strong relationships to gather information, obtain approvals and ensure communications are timely and effective.

The role requires excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. You will support the creation, coordination and delivery of content across multiple channels, including email, intranet and website platforms, ensuring all communications are well-presented, consistent and aligned with organisational standards.

Working for our organisation

SYNLAB UK & Ireland work closely with clinicians, hospitals, occupational health providers and clinical researchers to deliver comprehensive pathology services.

We thrive in diverse environments, which is mirrored in our workforce, clients, customers, suppliers, communities, and partners. We believe that an inclusive workplace culture is essential for attracting and retaining talented individuals, and for building a sustainable, high-performing workforce.

Our staff are crucial to our mission of making a positive impact on healthcare. We foster a culture of continuous personal development, providing scientists and staff with the support and resources needed to acquire new skills and advance their careers through learning and development opportunities, coaching, and clear career pathways.

We encourage an open and collaborative culture where leaders act as role models, facilitate two-way communication, engage transparently with staff and stakeholders, and actively seek feedback and suggestions.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

  • Building and maintaining strong relationships both with internal stakeholders to ensure communications considerations are embedded within operational decision-making, and our key audiences across primary and secondary care and third-party customers.
  • Where appropriate and required, attending and contributing to clinical forums and sessions, feeding back to the wider team on key topics.
  • Managing and triaging requests and enquiries across our mailboxes, maintaining communication plans, trackers, dashboards and metrics.
  • Drafting, coordinating, and where appropriate leading on the development of clear, concise, and engaging communications – noting the ability to capture and distil clinical and technical information is critical to the role
  • Formatting, quality-checking, testing, and distributing communications through Dotdigital – our mailing software
  • Managing and regularly reviewing distribution lists, ensuring records remain accurate, compliant, and aligned with communication approval processes.
