An opportunity has arisen to join our small and friendly Homecare team at Beckenham Beacon.

 

Post holder should contain technical administrative skills, strong problem-solving initiative, managerial and IT skills to ensure that high standards of governance are maintained and translated into a quality service for patients and hospital staff which safeguards patients whilst offering choice and making the best use of NHS resources.

 

Main duties of the job

As an Advanced Pharmacy Technician in Homecare, the post holder will support the delivery, oversight, and continual improvement of the Trust’s homecare medicines service. Working under the Chief Homecare Technician, they will ensure medicines are supplied safely and efficiently to patients via external homecare providers.

Key responsibilities include managing administrative processes, monitoring provider performance, supporting financial reconciliation, resolving service issues, and ensuring compliance with national homecare standards. The post holder will lead audits, gather KPI data, contribute to service development, and help implement new homecare pathways.

The role also involves line management of homecare technical and administrative staff, supporting recruitment, training, inductions, appraisals, and performance management. They will act as a point of contact for clinical teams, finance, providers, and patients, ensuring excellent communication and problem solving.

They may also provide operational support to inpatient pharmacy services and deputise for the Chief Homecare Technician when required.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The post holder will support the effective delivery, governance and ongoing development of the Trust’s homecare medicines service. Working under the direction of the Chief Homecare Technician, they will ensure the safe, timely and compliant provision of medicines to patients via approved homecare providers. This includes maintaining robust administrative processes, monitoring provider performance, resolving service issues, and ensuring adherence to national Homecare Standards and Trust policies.

The role requires active involvement in audit, KPI reporting, service review meetings and the implementation of new and existing homecare pathways. The post holder will work closely with pharmacy, clinical, finance and external stakeholders to optimise patient experience, service quality and operational efficiency.

The post includes line management responsibilities for homecare technical and administrative staff, contributing to recruitment, training, appraisal and day-to-day supervision. The post holder will act as an Accredited Accuracy Checker, support the development of SOPs, maintain professional standards, and provide operational support to inpatient pharmacy services when required. They may also deputise for the Chief Homecare Technician.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 Pharmacy Services with underpinning knowledge provided by the BTEC Certificate in Pharmaceutical Sciences OR other recognised Pharmacy Technician Qualification meeting requirements for registration with GPhC
  • Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification
  • Supervisory/leadership qualification or equivalent experience

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Significant experience relevant to Hospital Pharmacy Practice with assessed competencies
  • Experience supervising and leading staff
  • Experience working with multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience of quality, audit, or service improvement activities
Desirable criteria
  • Experience/Knowledge of Homecare processes

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills
  • Strong IT skills, including proficient use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
