Job overview
To work as part of a Trust-wide team under the direction of the leads for Mandatory and Statutory Training tutors and the Associate Director of Education & Development. To design, deliver and evaluate training programmes and learning provision for core Trust training and external partners.
To support staff in training and development activities with a particular focus on the delivery of mandatory training (e.g. Resuscitation PSTS – Promoting Safe and Therapeutic Services, including physical and clinical skills, and facilitate learning and undertake assessment of competence. The post holder’s job plan will be made up of 80% direct teaching contact and 20% development/administration time.
The post holder will already be working/have worked in a clinical post and be committed to working with the Education & Development department to provide training for staff across the Trust.
Main duties of the job
We are seeking an highly motivated and experienced qualified nurses (RMN/ RNLD) with a commitment to achieving the highest quality care through the provision of training and education of Trust staff, to join our team of Learning and Development Advisors within the Education and Development Department.
As a Learning and Development Advisor you will be involved in the delivery of a portfolio of training programmes that includes Basic Life Support, Manual Handling, and the Promotion of Safe and Therapeutic Services, which will require you to conduct competency based assessments on those you teach. You will also be involved in the evaluation and development of these and new programmes which will include the development of e-learning and supporting the Trust’ ever increasing workforce of apprentices.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
• Deliver a range of theoretical and practical clinical skills training using a range of effective teaching and learning methods, meeting learner needs, in a range of settings (classroom-based, work-based, team training).
• Assess competence of skills acquired by learner and determine their safety to practice
• Design training and learning activities which promote learning, facilitate demonstration of competence and meet professional, policy and legislative requirements.
• Work with clinical staff in the practice setting as required as part of delivery method for the core education and training.
• Maintain and develop clinical skills through regular participation as a clinical practitioner within a clinical environment.
• Encourage service users and carers to maximise their involvement in education and ensure involvement with the development of education in this area.
• Evaluate the effectiveness of programmes and learning activities and provide reports in accordance with the quality assurance framework, and other assessments/audits as required
• Supervise Learning and Development Trainers/unregistered staff in the team, developing an environment that is conducive to learning and promoting staff involvement in a training programme
• Maintain his/her own continuing professional development.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- • Professional qualification in health or social care. (2) • Teaching / training qualification e.g. mentorship / ENB 998, C&G 730, TDLB, CIPD (or to work towards one). (2) • Degree or equivalent work experience. (2)
Desirable criteria
- • Manual handling teaching qualification. BLS (Basic Life Support) teaching qualification (Resus Council Approved). Immediate Life Support, Advanced life support (2) • Manual handling teaching qualification. BLS (Basic Life Support) teaching qualification (Resus Council Approved). Qualification as an accredited PSTS (Promoting Safe and Therapeutic Service) instructor / tutor (GSA). (2) • Be a registered General Services Association trainer/tutor for Promoting Safe and Therapeutic Services (PMVA) trainer and be committed to learning other subjects such as BLS (2)
Experience
Essential criteria
- • • Clinical practitioner experience in mental health setting/ health and social care setting (2) • • Experience teaching adults and designing, delivering and evaluating training for a range of learners (2) • • Experience using ICT, e.g Powerpoint/Support Learning/Experience of monitoring/ assessing students/ other professionals (2)
Desirable criteria
- Experience in education and training related to mental health services and of clinical skills settings (2) • • Experience of multi professional working/ Experience of managing projects/ resources (2) • Experience of formal assessment of learning (2)
Knowledge
