Job overview
An exciting opportunity has risen for a Specialist Doctor to join the East London NHS Foundation Trust and to work with the Bedford team.
The post holder will support the community case load for Bedford Referrals come through the common referrals pathway. The candidate will have experience of working in this environment and will be tenacious in providing the best care over prolonged periods of time to achieve optimum outcomes for these patients using all treatment modalities.
Main duties of the job
1. Provide comprehensive assessment, diagnosis and management of issues relating to mental and physical health for adults with acute and severe mental illness in the community (over 18 years) so that intensive and timely treatment can be delivered to prevent chronicity and dependency on psychiatric services.
2. Provide clinical advice and guidance to primary care physicians to manage patients in the least restrictive environment
3. Undertake all work in the context of the recovery approach which is emphasised across the Trust, placing the service user at the centre of planning and decision making.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
- Fully registered with the General Medical Council
Desirable criteria
- Higher degree
- Membership or Fellowship of the Royal College of Psychiatrists or equivalent qualification (in accordance with Royal College of Psychiatrists guidelines)
- Approval under Section 12(2) of Mental Health Act 1983, or plan to gain approval within 6 months of appointment.
Professional Values and Behaviours, Skills and Knowledge
Essential criteria
- At least six years’ experience of psychiatry clinical practice post medical qualification
- Appreciation and understanding of social and cultural factors relevant to psychiatric practice
- Experience of and commitment to clinical care of individuals with severe and enduring mental health conditions
Desirable criteria
- Experience of clinical work in Acute Adult Psychiatry
- Experience of Quality Improvement projects & Clinical Audit
- Good working knowledge and experience of the application of the Mental Health Act
