NHS Medical & Dental: Specialty Doctor

ELFT has long been recognised as a centre of excellence for mental and health care, innovation and improvement. So it is a very exciting time for you to come and work for us. Our mission is to make a positive difference to people's lives by improving quality of life for all we serve. Our values are: We Care, We Respect, We are Inclusive – so we are looking for people who live and breathe these qualities when supporting service users and carers, and in their relationships with colleagues in the Trust and our partner organisations.

Job overview

An exciting opportunity has risen for a speciality doctor to join the East London NHS Foundation Trust and to initially work with the Bedfordshire and Luton Services for people who have a learning disability for one year followed by a rotation through different posts on a yearly basis according to service needs, offering opportunities for developing clinical expertise across a range of specialities. You will be supported in progressing through the CESR/Article 14 route to CCT if this is your goal. The community Learning Disability Team in Luton is a dynamic and forward looking team and aims to provide a person centred service to people with Learning Disabilities with a holistic approach.

Main duties of the job

  • To participate in the joint assessment of new referrals and to perform medical reviews as and when required for patients with Learning Disability and Autism.
  • To attend CPA reviews as and when necessary.
  • To attend the daily morning meetings, weekly clinical meeting, service development meetings, business meetings, etc.
  • To undertake emergency/urgent assessments on behalf of the Consultant.
  • To participate in Mental Health Act Assessments (if Section 12 approved) if necessary and liaison work with GPs and other professional and non-statutory bodies under the direction of the responsible consultant.
  • To occasionally act up for the Consultant’s annual leave under nominal Consultant cover
  • All of the above duties will be under the direction of the respective consultant. The post holder must note that such duties may occasionally vary depending on service requirements and may change according to how the service is going to develop in the future. A degree of flexibility is required.

·       Assist the Directorate in the planning and development of services; there is a policy of succession planning and leadership training available to staff identified and clinical engagement in commissioning and business processes is strongly encouraged.
