Senior CAMHS Practitioner - North Bedfordshire MHST

The Community Access Service (CAS) are excited to offer the opportunity for an experienced CAMHS Practitioner to join our team. The CAS is an established team that has a strong ethos of improving the mental health and well-being of children and young people in schools and in the community. The post provides an exciting opportunity to deliver evidence – based interventions for children and young people working across multiple education settings and aims to increase early access and availability to services.

The Community Access Service have the aim of improving the mental health and wellbeing of children and young people in the community. There is a specific focus on developing more access to helping and improving the general culture of emotional support within all primary and secondary schools. Working alongside community partners the CAS will be fully integrated with the community which includes educational settings and GP Surgeries.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The role will include helping to develop and deliver a wide range of interventions, projects and system change with the aim of ‘whole school’ and ‘whole community’ approaches to supporting young people’s mental health. In addition, the successful candidates will provide comprehensive
consultation, assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties. The post also involves supervising more junior colleagues of the Mental Health Support Teams.

We are part of ELFT (East London Foundation Trust), which includes five CAMHS services across East London, Bedfordshire and Luton.  The Bedford CAS is a busy MDT team who works with all specialist pathways within the North Bedfordshire service, such as our crisis service, Emotional & Behavioural, Neurodevelopmental service and more. You would be joining a comprehensive and dynamic CAMH service, delivering a substantial stepped model of care following the needs-led Thrive framework. Your role will help to develop and deliver a wide range of interventions, projects and system change with the aim of whole school and whole community approaches to supporting young people’s mental health.

In addition to providing comprehensive consultation, assessment, risk management and interventions for young people experiencing emotional and mental health difficulties in schools, the post holder will supervise more junior colleagues. There may be an option of supervisor training at Reading University as part of this role

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • A qualification of Mental Health Nurse, Systemic Family Psychotherapist, Psychologist, Art Psychotherapist, Social Worker, Child Psychotherapist, Occupational Therapist, CBT Therapist & Registration
Desirable criteria
  • Parenting qualification and parenting supervision qualification.
  • Specific therapeutic modality training and qualification e.g. CBT, DBT, IPT And accreditation with BABCP etc.
  • IAPT supervisors’ course

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Evidence of well-developed clinical skills and knowledge in CAMHS
  • Specialist clinical skills within in specific therapeutic modalities
  • Able to manage own time and caseload
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Evidence of ability to lead, support and influence others
  • Able to work effectively across organisational boundaries
  • Teaching skills, both in clinical setting and education centres
  • Keyboard/computer skills

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Previous experience of working in CAMHS
  • Experience of working with a wide range of mental health problems commonly seen in CAMHS
  • Experience of care planning
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary way
  • Knowledge and experience of working within a CBT framework to support trainee practitioners.
Desirable criteria
  • Delivery of parenting programmes – Webster-Stratton, Triple P, NVR etc. Previous experience working with schools in mental health capacity.
  • Supervision of clinicians delivering parenting and manualised CBT interventions
  • Experience of working in a culturally diverse inner-city area
  • Experience in crisis work
