Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Band 7 Dietitian with specialist knowledge in complex obesity and bariatric surgery to work at The Princess Royal University Hospital (PRUH) site, part of King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.
The post holder will lead the bariatric service for the PRUH with support from the wider specialist obesity and bariatric dietetic team based at the Denmark Hill site. The post holder will be expected to actively contribute within the Bariatric Multidisciplinary team at PRUH and provide highly complex dietetic counselling to patients pre and post bariatric surgery, including troubleshooting advice and occasional dietetic management of inpatients with complex obesity and bariatric surgery complications.
Effective time management and organisational skills are required for this demanding caseload, as well as excellent communication and behaviour change skills.
This outpatient role is based at the PRUH with some clinics held at the Orpington hospital site.
Main duties of the job
The Specialist Dietitian – Bariatric Surgery will act as the lead dietitian for the bariatric service at PRUH, providing highly specialised nutritional assessment, counselling, and treatment for patients undergoing bariatric surgery and those living with complex obesity. The post holder will work collaboratively with surgeons, endocrinologists, specialist nurses and other healthcare professionals to deliver high-quality multidisciplinary care throughout the patient journey.
Working primarily within an outpatient setting, the successful candidate will provide expert nutritional management for patients before and after bariatric surgery, supporting them through lifestyle changes, weight management goals, nutritional optimisation, and the prevention and management of surgical complications. The role also includes occasional inpatient support for patients with complex obesity-related conditions or post-operative nutritional complications.
This position requires exceptional communication, counselling, and motivational interviewing skills, alongside the ability to manage a demanding and varied caseload. The successful candidate will be expected to work autonomously while contributing positively to the wider dietetic and multidisciplinary teams.
