We are the only NHS provider trust to serve the whole of London and the nine million people who live in, work in or visit the city. We cover an area of 620sq miles and have more than 8,000 people who work or volunteer for us – rising to 10,000 when including bank staff and students.
We answer around two million 999 calls a year and our crews attend more than 3000 emergencies a day. Our 24-hour 111 integrated urgent care services London answer around two million calls a year.
We play a leading role in integrating access to emergency and urgent care in the capital and are striving to ensure patients receive the right response, in the right place, at the right time
Our main role is to respond to emergency 999 calls, providing medical care to patients across the capital, 24-hours a day, 365 days a year. Other services we offer include providing pre-arranged patient transport and finding hospital beds. Working with the police and the fire service, we are prepared for dealing with large-scale or major incidents in the capital.
Job overview
- The Operational Delivery Manager (OPM) is the member of the senior leadership team.
- The role of the ODM is to be responsible for the delivery of the complete Make Ready services in order to support Trust ambulance operational performance and the delivery of high quality patient care.
- With responsibility for the whole of the make ready operations; the post holders will help shape strategic direction; execute improvements and developments and be accountable for the performance, financial and quality standards for the service.
- As a senior manager, and reporting directly to the General Manager of Make Ready, the post holders will be seen as the subject matter expert for MR operational delivery for both internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
- The ODM post-holders will deputise for the General Manager as required.
- The post-holders will have the strategic vision of the make ready services and to demonstrate to all a clear vision of the future for make ready. They will lead the development of the department against a background of changing demands, Make
Ready in sourced objectives and Trust needs, whilst improving standards and performance of overall services together with ensuring the department delivers value for
money. - The ODM is accountable for leading and managing a team of Sector managers and the responsible for the associated make ready operational management and front line teams and their performance and productivity standards.
Main duties of the job
- The ODM will lead innovative development of tailored policies and services (such as ambulance make ready and movements, ambulance kit guide, refueling, vehicle cleaning, hubs medical equipment availability, medical equipment collection from A&E
hospitals, stock management ) collaborating across teams to optimise service delivery aligned with departmental goals. - Proactively engaging with stakeholders, including clinical and operational teams, the ODM ensures policies and services are responsive to dynamic change while aligning with trust objectives.
- The ODM's pivotal role involves driving policy implementation, translating strategic directives into actionable plans, and ensuring adherence to guidelines, fostering compliance and continuous improvement.
- Responsible for the development of Business cases in conjunction with Trust leadership teams incorporating analysis of highly complex operational data/statistics.
- Numerate with strong analytical and problem solving skills. Proven ability to interpret highly complex data and high levels of concentration.

Essential criteria
- Master’s Degree, equivalent professional qualifications and/or substantial demonstrable experience in a similar role or setting
- Full driving licence, valid in the UK and with no more than 3 penalty points
Experience

- Demonstrable current senior leadership and management experience at the same or similar level
- Setting and implementing long term plans to achieve objectives and targets
