Job overview

Pathology Courier , Band 2  (15 hours per week )

The phlebotomy and Pathology Transport Department is part of the Cancer and Clinical Services Division, supported by a clinical lead with the reporting line that goes through a Service Manager, General Manager. The overall performance and governance oversight is provided by a triumvirate comprising a Divisional Medical Director, Director of Operations and a Director of Nursing.

 

 

Main duties of the job

The post holder carries out the daily courier work of the department as required under the direction of the Transport Supervisor and Service Manager. This includes carry out deliveries and collections of Pathology samples to/from GP surgeries, and outside hospitals. Post holder also assist phlebotomy department in stock deliveries and stock management and help with the waste management in Pathology.

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience of driving a van
Desirable criteria
  • Driving experience in NHS setting

Qualifications and Training

Essential criteria
  • A good command of written and spoken English to GCSE level
  • A valid full and clean UK Driving Licence, Van driver
Desirable criteria
  • Know how to ride a motor bike (Bike Courier) Motorbike licence

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria
  • Ability to keep accurate records.
  • Able to organise and prioritise own workload.
  • Basic IT literacy in Word, internet and email
  • Making judgment on the road while driving and when to ask for help.
  • To be punctual for work and tidy in appearance.
  • Able to work well in a team and keep van/bike safe at all times on the road and when parked up.
