Job overview

An exciting opportunity has come for an enthusiastic Band 5 Radiographer to join our team. The post-holder will be expected to produce high quality images to assist in diagnosis and treatment. They will fulfil the requirements of their role within the Imaging team.

Core hours:

The successful applicants will be required to work a minimum of 37.5 hours per week.

Core hours will be worked on a rotational basis - 7 day working week

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Roles and responsibilities:

  1. To undertake all radiographic duties efficiently and to a high standard.
  2. To ensure that patients receive a high standard of care.
  3. To be conversant with the routine procedures in all general and screening rooms, casualty and mobile and theatre radiography.
  4. To assist with the practical training of student radiographers.
  5. To communicate with other staff members to ensure the smooth running of the Department.
  6. To ensure that the Radiation Protection guidelines, IR (ME) R guidelines and local rules are strictly adhered to.
  7. To ensure that the rules and procedures of the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 are strictly adhered to, and that all working areas are kept clean and safe.
  8. To participate in the departmental quality assurance programmes as required.
  9. To report and record all equipment faults.
  10. To participate in the on call and stand by rotas as required.
  11. To undertake any other duties which may be appropriate to the post.
  12. To offer an initial assessment and interpretation of images produced in the course of their role.
  13. To comply with, and be able to demonstrate and instruct, safe manual handling techniques.
  14. To comply with and be able to demonstrate safe infection control measures.

Other Requirements/ Responsibilities

  1. To strive to achieve competencies required to progress to Band 6 radiographer
  2. To maintain a commitment to, and take responsibility for personal development utilising principles of Continuous Professional Development (CPD). The post holder is encouraged by the department to attend both personal and professional development activities that assist in their role and the service.
  3. The post holder will be required to actively participate in a periodic performance appraisal, in accordance with the Trust guidelines

Person specification

Education and Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • BSc (Hons) Radiography
  • DCR (R)
  • Or accepted international equivalent
  • HCPC registration
Desirable criteria
  • member of SOR
  • Interest in further study and CPD including research

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Broad general radiography experience at student / radiographer level
Desirable criteria
  • Exposure to specialist techniques

Skills and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Able to work under own initiative.
  • Ability to make decisions.
  • Organisational skills.
  • Interest in teaching/training.
  • Up to date technical knowledge.
  • Ability to undertake primary diagnosis from acquired images.
  • Ability to safely use specialist equipment
  • A good understanding and demonstration of Customer Service standards.
  • Able to supervise more junior staff including students
Desirable criteria
  • Leadership skills.
  • Awareness of developments in NHS.
  • Willingness to participate in departmental service development
  • Willingness to teach/train
  • Able to apply use of IT to principles of patient confidentiality.
  • Willingness to extend role e.g. IV cannulation
