Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic Band 5 nurse to join our friendly and dedicated team in the Royal Marsden Chelsea Endoscopy unit. We have 1 endoscopy procedure suite with 5 recovery bays and an endoscopy decontamination unit. Endoscopy decontamination service is providing service cross site with two Wassenburg machines running service. We are performing Endoscopic surveillance and therapeutic interventions covering the South West London and regional referrals including both NHS and private patients. We are currently recruiting due to expansion of service and if you are an experienced and motivated Endoscopy practitioner, we would like to invite you to join our unique diverse team. You will gain clinical experience in endoscopy and pre-assessment, and will be able to apply the relevant skills in the care of patients for endoscopic interventions; which involves working with a wide range of complex cases. Main duties of the job

  •         To work as a member of the endoscopy team.
  •             To be responsible for the care of patients attending the Endoscopy Suite from pre-assessment through to discharge.
  •             To deliver a high standard of individualised patient care, and to be will required to develop competence in the management of patients undergoing endoscopic procedures the use of endoscopy equipment and accessories.

2.1 Following the appropriate training, undertake comprehensive telephone pre-assessments, including appropriate action for warfarin and diabetes management
2.2 Ensuring that accurate information regarding the endoscopy procedure is given to the patient.
2.3 Following required training and completion of endoscopy specific competencies, take consent for specific procedures
2.4 To interpret and act upon blood results (with guidance from Charge nurse/senior staff nurse).

Person specification

Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Unrestricted NMC Registration to practice
  • Evidence of on-going professional development (i.e. training courses, CPD)
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant degree or working towards master’s level
  • Completion of post-graduate level 5/6/7 module related to area of practice / oncology

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Recent experience within an acute clinical setting (i.e. Acute Medical/Surgical Ward/A&E/Critical Care/Day Surgery/Pre-assessment)
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of recent appropriate clinical practice within Endoscopy
  • Experience in supervising new members of staff / students

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Competent in giving IV medication
  • Competent in venepuncture and cannulation or training can be provided within agreed time frame
Desirable criteria
  • RMH Certificate in Intravenous Drug Administration to be obtained within three months of appointment
  • RMH Certificate in venepuncture and cannulation to be obtained within three months of appointment
