Clinical Research Doctor - Gynaecological Cancer Research

NHS Medical & Dental: Local Appointment nodal point 4 (MT04)

Job overview

This is a one-year medical oncology clinical fellowship, conducting projects focused on clinical research (Gynaecology cancers). The research will be a mixture of clinical and translational research and the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop strong links with one of the ICR laboratories and clinician scientists/scientists that the Gynaecology unit work in collaboration with. There are a number of ongoing clinical research projects across the disease areas and the Gynaecology unit has a strong track record of success in students successfully completing their projects, publishing, presenting internationally, developing their own research and clinical profile.

Main duties of the job

  • Develop clinical research skills in order to propose, design and develop academic institutional and/or multicentre clinical trials with support from the consultants and experienced statisticians and trial managers working within the Gynaecology unit
  • Develop grant writing skills for peer reviewed funding and/or endorsement of academic clinical and translational studies. This includes understanding how to appropriately cost a study and attribute the costs of healthcare research as required by major research funders
  • Develop skills to design translational research protocols in collaboration with clinician scientists and statisticians
