Job overview

We are looking to recruit a senior pharmacist to lead the clinical pharmacy team at The Royal Marsden. These are really exciting times for the pharmacy team, with clinical developments across the Trust with pharmacy at the heart of many of them. A key part of the role will be to support the integration of prescribing pharmacists, and technicians with extended roles, across both our in patient and out patient services. We are seeking a pharmacist who can demonstrate great communication and leadership skills with the vision to enable The Royal Marsden to have a Clinical Pharmacy service that optimally uses all the pharmacy team.

Main duties of the job

•    Lead the operational & strategic delivery of clinical pharmacy services across RM to ensure effective, safe and evidence based care.
•    Oversee the coordination, optimisation and standardisation of clinical pharmacy services to deliver consistent pathways across all sites.
•    Provide leadership to a team of pharmacists, pharmacy technicians and other pharmacy staff, ensuring high quality, innovative clinical pharmacy practice.
•    Contribute as a member of the senior pharmacy leadership team to drive cost efficiencies and service improvements across departments and systems.
•    Deputise for the Deputy Chief Pharmacist on clinical and staff management matters, representing Pharmacy at key internal and external clinical forums.
•    Lead the delivery of local, regional and national medicines optimisation projects, ensuring successful implementation through strong stakeholder engagement and collaboration.
•    Develop and support new models of care, including expanded roles for pharmacy staff.
•    Contribute to the development and delivery of the pharmacy research strategy.

Leadership

•    Lead and manage the pharmacy clinical services team, providing leadership and support, clinical supervision, quality service delivery and delivery of performance standards.
•    Work with the Chief Pharmacist and Deputy Chief Pharmacist to develop the vision for clinical pharmacy services
•    Member of the pharmacy leadership team and contribute to business development projects within the Trust including cost saving initiatives, liaising with the senior multidisciplinary teams within the Trust and external organisations.
•    To provide a framework for the development and implementation of care closer to home and other new models of care.
•    To support new models of working resulting in the further integration of pharmacists fully into multidisciplinary clinics across the Trust, aligned with the roll out of Non-Medical Prescribing.
•    To create and embed new ways of working both within and outside of pharmacy following the implementation of the EPIC system.
•    Support the pharmacy department’s digital program to deliver large scale improvement projects and business as usual quality and safe systems 
•    Support the development of an extended weekend and bank holiday pharmacy service.
•    To lead the pharmacy team providing a clinical pharmacy service on all sites, to include day to day oversight of operations, implementation of clear processes for allocating and managing the workforce and skill mix optimisation.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC).
  • MSc in Clinical Pharmacy, or equivalent
  • Registered as a Non-Medical Prescriber
  • Management / leadership qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS).

Employment / Special Knowledge / Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive post-registration experience with substantial hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Clinical leadership experience in organisations, systems, alongside multidisciplinary teams at a senior level.
  • Able to demonstrate advanced specialist clinical pharmacy knowledge and expertise of SACT.
  • Experience of delivering high quality clinical pharmacy services to a range of clinical specialties
  • Knowledge and experience of integrated digital health record systems.

Skills / Abilities

Essential criteria
  • Ability to work strategically and communicate effectively with senior colleagues, members of the public and other healthcare professionals (written & verbal)
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and alone without direct supervision when required.
