Job overview

Applications are invited for a Locum Consultant Clinical Oncologist to join the Sarcoma multidisciplinary teams at The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, Chelsea.  The post is a 12 month fixed term contract to support clinical expansion and sick leave. Applicants should be able to commence as soon as possible. 
This is a full time 10PA post with emphasis on the management of clinical oncology patients at Royal Marsden Chelsea.  Both systemic therapy and radiotherapy delivery are included. The post holder will also contribute to the unit’s programmes of research including the development and implementation of new radiotherapy techniques as well as support for current and future clinical trials in this area.  The post is well supported and by current consultants who will provide mentorship and cover for leave. 


Main duties of the job

• To provide and co-ordinate the Clinical Oncology management of patients with 
sarcoma (RMH and networked hospitals) working closely with all members of the 
multi-professional team. 
• To provide and co-ordinate the Clinical Oncology management of patients with 
sarcoma working closely with all members of the multi-professional team. 
• To contribute to the development of education and training opportunities for specialist 
registrars in Clinical Oncology.
• To support the care of inpatients with sarcoma.
• To provide advice on clinical oncology aspects of treatment and care for colleagues in 
other specialties within the department, The Royal Marsden, General Practitioners and 
RM Partners. 
• To participate in and support the multidisciplinary care team which includes Medical 
Oncologists, Surgeons, the relevant junior team, Specialist Nursing Staff, Therapists, 
Dietician, Social worker, Palliative Care and Psychological Support. 
• Contribution to research activity is expected.
• To participate in each of the multidisciplinary meetings reviewing all relevant histology 
and radiology. 
• As a senior member of the medical team, the postholder, will provide clinical 
leadership and support for the effective development of sarcoma and to attend the 
relevant operational meetings

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full UK GMC Registration and licence to practice
  • CCT in Clinical Oncology or equivalent or within 6 months of obtaining
  • MRCP & FRCR or equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • Higher Degree (Research)

Experience & Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • A broad-based experience in radiotherapy for sarcoma
  • A relevant interest in clinical research
  • Undergraduate and postgraduate training
Desirable criteria
  • Management training and experience in medical audit
