Job overview

The  Essex MHST we are looking for a service wide Band 8b Clinical Lead to support the expansion, development and delivery of MHSTs across  Essex.

We currently have 17 amazing teams, with a further 3 planned to join over the next 12 months. NELFT is the countries largest provider of Mental Health Support Teams across the country with teams across Essex, Kent and London.

This role would suit an experienced and qualified Clinical Psychologist, Family Therapist, or Psychotherapist. The successful applicant will provide clinical leadership ensuring the service is equitable across each diverse locality and adheres to national protocols. The applicant would join an established leadership team to support the newly onboarded North East Essex MHSTs and support integration to NELFT and play a vital role in further expansion across Essex.

Main duties of the job

Mental Health Support Teams (MHSTs) are designed to support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health and emotional wellbeing in schools. They are made up of Children and Young People’s Mental Health Practitioners and Education Mental Health Practitioners, with each team supporting a population of up to 8,000 children and young people. MHSTs aims to:

  • Support children and young people with mild to moderate mental health problems through evidence-based interventions
  • Support schools in developing their whole school approach to mental health
  • Provide timely advice to school staff and liaise with other services to help children and young people get the right help and stay in education.

This role will see the Clinical Lead join the senior leadership team to support the expansion of MHSTs, the clinical lead will be responsible for overseeing the sucessful role out and service delivery. The sucessful candidate would play a pivitol role in the evaluation of the service onboarding of future education settings, integration into the community and transformation of low to moderate mental health services across Essex.

You will need to demonstrate strong people skills and the ability to work across organisational boundaries.  In addition, you will be a decision maker and be able to motivate colleagues across multidisciplinary teams to deliver the highest quality services.

Starting with NELFT
NELFT place a great deal of importance on new starters being properly welcomed and inducted into the Trust. All new starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and will undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks which will include mandatory training, systems training and the allocation of equipment. As part of the process new starters will have the opportunity to also meet the executive team, senior managers and attend a number of drop in sessions focusing in engagement, health and wellbeing and key processes. The induction will be held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.

This role will include working with the locality-based Clinical Leads and the Educational Lead, under the guidance of the Clinical & Strategic Lead. Excellent opportunities will be available for training and professional development, with regular supervision and access to other support via NELFT.

Qualifications/Registration

Essential criteria
  • Successful completion of a post-graduate training in psychological practice (e.g. psychologist, family therapist, child and adolescent psychotherapist
  • To be eligible for registration as a full member of the appropriate professional body (e.g. HCPC, BABCP, UKCP, AFT, ACP)

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Extensive experience of working with difficult, disturbed or challenging children/young people requiring skilled and complex interventions
  • Extensive experience of clinical supervision of post-graduate qualified psychological practitioners
  • Extensive experience of working therapeutically with parents/carers/families of children and young people with complex mental health problems

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Stamina, energy and enthusiasm and the ability to work under pressure

Knowlegde

Essential criteria
  • Senior management experience within the Public Sector
  • Successful track record of delivering services to ethnic minority communities
  • Experience of undertaking audits within a clinical setting.
Desirable criteria
  • Has referenced MHSTs within supporting statement
