We are a friendly team who work together to ensure a positive work life balance and as such we enjoy our time at work.  We have bring a dish lunch breaks, and we have a post work walking club for example! We have excellent working relationships across the MDT both within the department, directorate and the wider hospital.

About our Gyanecology service......

Gynaecology is concerned with the well-being and health of the female reproductive organs and the ability to reproduce. It includes endocrinology, female urology and pelvic malignancy. The service sees patients with gynaecological problems from age sixteen as standard, with a specialist clinician seeing all under sixteens.

Most consultants within the speciality work in both Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G). Many have a major special interest in a particular area, such as fertility, adolescent gynaecology, menopause, colposcopy and oncology. The service also provides regional Endometriosis and Urogynaecology services and is considered to be a centre of excellence in these fields.

The speciality deals mostly with healthy women, where unexpected challenges can present themselves on a daily basis. Work includes a large number of ambulatory diagnostic/therapeutic procedures as well as procedures under general anaesthetic. The advantage in this group is the majority will be discharged back to their GPs once the condition is managed.

Gynaecology is an exciting area. Many new techniques and procedures have been developed over the past 30 years, and transformed the health of women. Ambulatory gynaecology in particular has come into its own creating a ‘one-stop’ consultation, diagnosis and treatment model. Here at Croydon, effort is being put into this model particular for urgent suspected cancers.

In addition, the department has made a significant move towards minimal access surgery and performing laparoscopic hysterectomies and myomectomies. This reduces post-op morbidity and length of stay in hospital.

Our Outpatient clinics including Orchid suite are situated in Woodcroft Wing at Croydon University Hospital, and Purley War Memorial Hospital. Diagnostic services such as Colposcopy, Outpatient hysteroscopy and the Early Pregnancy Unit are located in the Women’s Unit in the Woodcroft Wing.

Inpatient procedures are carried out in Main theatres or the day surgery Unit both located in the London Wing of the hospital. Post operatively our patients are housed on Queens 2 ward in the Jubilee Wing.

Bleeding disorders

Pelvic pain

Cervical screening abnormalities
