An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 7 practice educator to join our friendly team in Croydon to work in our Paediatric Emergency Department.

The newly purpose built Paediatric Emergency Department at Croydon sees over 30,000 children a year, we have a mix of staff from band 2 HCA, and Band 5-7 Nurses working in the unit who will need the support and development of a PDN to develop their clinical and non clinical skills.

Main duties of the job

The main role will be to support staff  and help the department grow and flourish from an educational stand point. You will be lead triage training for the team, auditing and supporting already triage nurses to ensure high standards of patient care are met. 

You will be expected to  work clinically alongside the team, demonstrating excellent role modelling and expert practice.  

The post holder will be responsible for the effective and efficient operational and professional.

Management of the department/ward; including budget control, governance, workforce and overseeing the delivery of care in line with our values.

As a key member of a multi professional team, ensure appropriate referral, discussions and decisions with other members of the team to optimise patient care and improve patient outcomes and experience.

Ensure patients are assessed, have care plans that are implemented and evaluated in accordance with Trust’s evidence based procedural documents.

Deliver the Fundamentals of care.

Act as a clinical expert within sphere of work.

Have continuous responsibility for the ward area, providing visible professional leadership and line management for a team of nursing, care and support staff.

Previous experience in the PDN role is preferably.

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS

Essential criteria
  • RN Child
  • Teaching Qualification or equivalent experience.
  • Degree or working towards degree/Masters
  • Completed ,or willing to undertake Post graduate teaching qualification
Desirable criteria
  • Relevant clinical post registration course –
  • Manchester Triage trained teaching course

SKILLS/ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Organisation, administrative and management skills.
  • Organising and delivering Teaching.
  • Ability to lead a team.
  • Ability to problem solve
  • Ability to appraise staff.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure.

  • Significant experience at Band 6 in acute paediatric setting

  • Recruitment, selection and retention experience
  • Experience with working with Patient electronic records
Desirable criteria
  • Effective interpersonal skills
  • Experience in practice educator role

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Essential criteria
  • Computer Literacy IT skills including use of MS Outlook
  • Use of MS Office packages including word, excel and power point
  • Articulate with advanced written and oral communication skills.
