Job overview

Fix term - 12 months - Maternity Cover

The Cancer Services Team Leader is responsible for the day-to-day supervision, coordination and operational delivery of cancer administrative functions across tumour sites. The post holder ensures that cancer pathways are accurately tracked, MDT meetings are effectively supported, and national cancer standards—including the 62-day, 31-day and Faster Diagnosis Standard—are maintained through timely, accurate and high-quality administrative processes.

The role provides leadership and support to MDT Coordinators, Cancer Trackers and administrative staff, promoting high standards of data quality, effective communication with clinical teams and robust pathway governance. Working closely with Cancer Managers, Service Managers, Clinical Leads and Diagnostic Services, the post holder supports the delivery of safe, responsive and patient-centred cancer pathways, escalating risks and issues as appropriate.

Main duties of the job

Team Leadership and Line Management

  •          Provide day-to-day supervision, workload allocation and operational support to MDT Coordinators
  •         Support recruitment, appraisal, training and development of staff, ensuring skills and competencies meet service requirements.
  •          Maintain rota cover for MDT meetings, tracking and data entry to ensure continuity of service delivery
  •          Ensure all cancer patients are tracked accurately and in real time, identifying and escalating delays, breaches and pathway risks in line with agreed escalation processes.
  •          Maintain accurate and up-to-date Patient Tracking Lists (PTLs), supporting escalation to the Cancer Operations Manager where required.
  •         Support MDT meeting preparation, including case lists, imaging and pathology availability, minute-taking and recording of decisions
  •         Oversee data entry into relevant information systems, ensuring accuracy, completeness and timeliness.
  •          Support data validation processes and ensure all pathways meet national and local documentation standards.
  •          Assist in producing performance reports, audit returns and breach analysis to support operational oversight and assurance
  •         Proactively identify pathway delays and work with clinical and operational colleagues to support timely resolution of issues.
  •          Liaise with diagnostic services, outpatients, theatres and clinical leads to ensure capacity aligns with pathway and patient needs.

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provides hospital and community services across Croydon through a range of clinics and specialist centres. Formed in August 2010 from the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust, we employ around 4,100 staff serving a diverse population of over 360,000 people.

Our main site, Croydon University Hospital, is one of the busiest in London. We are also leading the way in delivering more healthcare in community settings and people’s homes. Our district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons care for people of all ages across the borough.

Like the wider NHS, we are working hard to meet increasing demand. With the right people on board, we continue to innovate and transform our services to provide the highest quality care for local residents. We place strong emphasis on education, training and career development for all staff.

If you want to make a real difference, challenge yourself and be part of a Trust that’s shaping local healthcare, Croydon Health Services could be the place for you.
