Job overview
Diabetes Dietetic Assistant
The post holder will work as an integral part of the Diabetes Dietetic team, within Integrated Diabetes Service at Croydon Health Services NHS Trust, assist in delivering an efficient and high quality Dietetic Support Service to all service users.

Main duties of the job
List key duties
1. Assist the department in the implementation of, Clinical National Service Frameworks, NICE and any other guidance regarding nutritional care.
2. Assist and facilitate teaching and education sessions to nursing staff and other care staff across the Trust dietary aspect of diabetes.
3. Undertake teaching and education sessions to patients (once you passed appropriate competency levels as assessed by dietitians) on diet and diabetes, including delivery of DESMOND and carb counting sessions.
4. To be responsible for the organisation and regularly audit work to be able to promote the impact of the teaching on health outcomes.
5. Assist in the delivery of weekly gestational diabetes group education sessions and support associated administrative tasks, including outcome of attendance.
6. To be responsible for the organisation and ordering of dietary resources. Assist in the development of any new resources for the diabetes dietitians.
7. To participate in Continuous Professional Development, clinical audit, in-service training, clinical supervision and attended any relevant internal and external training courses. To complete an annual Personal Development Plan and aim to achieve all objectives.
8. Under the supervision of a Dietitian, hold a small clinical caseload as first point of contact during periods of high demand.

Education/Qualification
Essential criteria
- 5 GCSEs or equivalent including Maths and English
- Basic IT qualification
Desirable criteria
- 1 A level or NVQ at level 3 in a nutrition related area or BTEC award
- Facilitator training
Knowledge and Understanding
Essential criteria
- Awareness and understanding of NHS standards, relevant NHS intiatives
- Awareness and understanding of confidentiality/data protection
- Understanding of social and cultural issues
- Knowledge of adult protection procedures/issues
