Job overview

Musculoskeletal (MSK) Advanced Physiotherapy Practitioner Band 8a

Croydon Community Integrated Musculoskeletal (CIMSK) Service
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our team of experienced musculoskeletal advanced practice physiotherapists (MSK APP) as part of a redesigned & expanding Community Integrated Musculoskeletal (CIMSK) Service.

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic MSK clinician who is proactive and forward thinking to take on a general musculoskeletal advanced practice physiotherapist role. You should be able to demonstrate excellent communication, clinical and organisational skills. The CIMSK Service will provide triage and assessment for spinal and peripheral joint MSK conditions that have not responded to first line conservative treatment / management. The team of APPs will work both independently and alongside orthopaedic and musculoskeletal consultants in community and hospital locations throughout the London borough of Croydon to deliver high quality, evidence based care.

Main duties of the job

The Croydon Orthopaedic Practitioner Service provides triage and assessment of MSK and orthopaedic conditions of the spine and peripheral joints that have been referred into secondary care, and delivers the Virtual Fracture Clinic Service.  The team of APPs work both independently and alongside orthopaedic consultants in hospital locations throughout the London borough of Croydon to deliver high quality, evidence-based care.  This includes electronic triage, virtual and face-to-face assessments and management, which could involve requesting diagnostic investigations, and, as appropriate, injecting, non-medical prescribing and listing for surgery in discussion with consultants  You will be involved in the development of the service and it is vital to have the desire to develop and improve the service and have the ability to bring about change.

Support and training will be provided by our experienced APP team and secondary care consultants. You will be actively involved in our in-service training programme, regular regional APP CPD and Trust Clinical Governance meetings. There is the opportunity to work towards Health Education England Advanced Practice Accreditation.  Support in obtaining post-graduate qualifications in injection therapy, non-medical prescribing and diagnostic ultrasound will be considered, depending on service needs and personal development plans.

Working for our organisation

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Around 4,100 staff provide services for a population of over 360,000 people who are relatively young with a high level of ethnic diversity.

Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital is one of the busiest in London. We’re also leading the way in providing more healthcare outside hospitals at clinics, specialist centres and in people’s homes. Our experienced district nursing teams, Allied Health Professionals and community matrons look after people of all ages across Croydon and our Children’s Hospital at Home cares for children with long-term conditions without them having to come to hospital.

Across the NHS everyone is working hard to meet growing demand and we’re no exception. But with the right people on board, we are rising to this challenge, putting our people in the driving seat, encouraging innovation and transforming our services to give local people the quality of care they deserve.  As well as offering access to a range of core skills training and professional development.
