FULL TIME TRUST GRADE DOCTOR (ST1/2 EQUIVALENT) IN NEONATAL PAEDIATRICS

Applications are invited for the post of full time Trust Specialty Doctor (ST1/2 equivalent) in Neonatal Paediatrics. This is a fixed term post for 6 months starting from  September 2025. 

Croydon University Hospital is a large District General Hospital with links to the local Teaching hospitals. The Paediatric Department has 15 Consultants; 14 ST3+ and 16 ST1/2 equivalents and 2 F1/F2 as well as a well-developed Children’s Hospital at Home Team service. The Department has an excellent reputation for teaching and training and there are good opportunities for the successful candidate.

Croydon University Hospital has a delivery rate of 4,000 a year and is a sub-regional Centre for Neonatal Intensive Care with close links with the tertiary Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at St George’s Hospital. The Unit has HFO as well as conventional ventilation and cooling.

The successful candidates should have MBBS or equivalent with full GMC registration. Please note this post is not recognised for training.

 

Main duties of the job

Duties of the Post:
Trust grade specialty ST1/2 in neonates covering a Level 2 Neonatal unit, Labour ward and postnatal wards. Duties are in these three areas with opportunities to attend outpatient neonatal, general paediatric and specialist clinics.

On call rota:
Full shift system 1 in 7. This post complies with the junior doctor's hours regulations.

Educational and Training Objectives of this post:

·         Gain good general neonatal experience, including emergencies and on call

·         Gain experience in follow-up at outpatient clinics with supervision

·         Gain good experience in neonatology, including emergency cover for high risk deliveries

·         Ability to perform routine baby checks

·         Good exposure to neonatal intensive care

·         Participate in at least one high quality audit project

·         Enhance understanding of clinical governance, risk management & child protection

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Job Description is a reflection of current service needs and may be reviewed and amended, in consultation with the post holder, in the light of future changes or developments. The appointee will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge and for the
proper functioning of his/her department. He/she will undertake the administrative duties associated with the care of his/her patients.
Medical and dental staff will be required to assist management and its agents during investigations into claims alleging medical negligence and, where requested, to provide related factual statements.
Within the terms of DHSS Circular HC (88) 9 – Protection of Children – applicants are required when applying for this post to disclose any records of convictions, bind-over orders or cautions.

  • Basic training at FY1 /2 level in general medicine and surgery or Paediatrics for 6 months
