Specialist Speech and Language Therapist 

 Band 6

An opportunity has arisen, for a Band 6 Speech and Language Therapist to join the  Acute Therapy Team  within Croydon Health Services NHS Trust. This is a rotational post across acute and Integrated Neurology services. The currernt vacancy is in Acute.

At a Specialist level to assess, diagnose, treat and discharge clients referred with communication and swallowing difficulties.

The post holder will be expected to work in a variety of settings depending on their rotation, including Croydon University Hospital, Broad Green Centre, the patient’s own home and other
community settings as required. 

The postholder will be supervising junior staff and students  within the team.

Main duties of the job

 

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate experience and knowledge in assessment, treatment and management of patients who have acquired communication and swallowing problems, including after acute illness, with dementia,  post an ITU stay with trachy, Stroke and other neurological conditions. Experience of working with AAC is desirable.

We have rotations across the following areas:

  • Acute adult in patient service
  • Acute Stroke Unit
  • Community Neuro Rehab team
  • Community Stroke Rehab team

Supervision and support will be provided by the Band 7 Speech and language therapists within each team. As part of the speech and language therapy staffing you may be involved with VF clinics and we also deliver a FEES service. We are committed to providing the best possible service to our patients and strongly believe in the continuing professional development of our staff, with regular appraisals and in service training provided.

Person specification

Qualification & Education

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Speech and Language Therapy Degree Qualification
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Registered Member of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapist

Knowledege & Understanding

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of national policies and clinical guidelines
  • Knowledge of a range of appropriate therapeutic interventions

Experience

Essential criteria
  • 18 months clinical experience as SLT with adults
  • Experience working as an SLT with adults who have neurological conditions
  • Completed RCSLT Band 5 competencies

SKILLS / ABILITIES

Essential criteria
  • Identifies what attracts them to this specific post at Croydon Health services Trust
  • Demonstrates commitment to working with adults with neurological conditions
Desirable criteria
  • Car driver/Motor bike with access to vehicle for work
